| Review: | I built a PC for TiVO functionality, and other stuff. I was not satisfied using the ATI Remote Wonder, because it was RF and the whole point of buying, for example, an MX-500 was to have 1 remote.
I investigated the software I was going to use with this remote before I purchased. I inquired about the StreamZap with other users. I downloaded all software from StreamZap's website. I downloaded the Girder plugin. I downloaded Girder from www.girder.nl.
I installed the StreamZap on my Windows XP computer with no problem. I did not use the included software. I used the latest software from the website. I followed the directions to get the Girder plugin in place. I setup and configued Girder. I learned all buttons from the StreamZap into my MX-500. Then I configured commands for my programs using Girder IR learning with the StreamZap IR signals.
I have been using this remote for 1 week. It's not long, but I used my PC to watch broadcast TV, and record and play my shows all week. StreamZap navigates all I've told it to navigate. The command signals are passed through a chain, like StreamZap driver, Girder plugin, Girder, and destination program. Sometimes the commands are not read. I do have to point the remote a little toward the IR receiver. It's in my cabinet next to my preamp. As the reviewer mentioned, there are a limited amount of buttons. I'm using the base amount. Although, Girder can be configured to any combination per command. So as a user you have to decide what button or buttons control what command and plan. It does what I want, and fills a need. |

| Review: | I don't want to create a flame war, but my experience has been different from the previous person's. My PC is running XP Professional with Service Pack 1) and I had absolutely no problems installing the supplied drivers, and then upgrading to the latest versions from the StreamZap website.
So far, I've tested it with WinTV 2000 (USB/PVR), PowerDVD, Creative Media Center, WinTV Radio, and several other applications. Since I have a Nvidia Graphics card and a WinTV television tuner, I thought this unit would serve me better than the ATI remote, and so far, I do feel good about my choice. Overall quality is fine ... cost of the remote was very reasonable ($35). Try it! |
