Strengths: Customisability Weaknesses: Touch sensitivity (at times), fiddly-ness of Pronto Edit Review: This is a great remote, especially coupled with the ability to create custom graphics and the like for it. However, figuring out Pronto Edit can be a bit of a faff around, and the program has the feel of something knocked up by engineers without recourse to a bit of HCI design input. The manual is only so-so and omits useful information (like the minimum useable pixel dimensions for any custom graphics you create). The touch screen favours those with nails - a finger tap will, on occasion, fail to register. Also, and it may be becuase I'm using a conversion cable to connect the serial link to a USB port, I've often found that commands I've "learned" directly into Pronto Edit don't stick, meaning i have to create the buttons for the layout and then learn on the remote. Don't let that put you off though. A little perseverance turns this into a great tool for your home. Quality: Features: Value:

Strengths: infinite customability Weaknesses: touch screen sensitivity Review: B&W screen is harder to see than the color screen on the 6000 but the price is a bit more managable. As with all the prontos, programming this thing is a nightmare. Can't philips figure a way to make this remote a bit more user-friendly? It seems like you need a PhD in computer programming to get it going. Once you do spend a couple of weeks getting it to where you want it, it's worth it. Just be patient. You can probably learn more from reading Mr. Tonks' review than trying to make sense of the manual. The one thing that makes this remote a much better choice than the 1000 is the library of pre-programmed codes. The software could be SOOOO much better. 2) Too many screens required for devices. 3) Screen hard to see/read 4) Touch not sensitive enough 5) Two hand operation required 5) Needs hard buttons Review: Gave it my best shot, spending 10 hours or so going thru the basics. Learned all of my devices, worked fine. I guess I'm a hard button kinda guy, having to look at the display to do just about anything would take a lot of getting used to. Sending it back. First thought is a MX-700 , no way will I ever spend $500 on ANY remote. Decided on the MX-500 based on everything I've read here. Bottom line for me... the programability is cool. Uploading the ccf's with pretty pictures is cool. Too bad the display looks like crap, takes away from the over all experience. I'm just not into spending WEEKS to build the "perfect" ccf. I just want a remote control that is smart enough to replace my other 6. If you don't mind looking/poking and hoping, but want a "wow" factor, this is for you. Quality: Features: Value:

Touchscreen needs greater sensitivity. No RF. Review: I have had the 2000 for a few months now and I have a pretty good working setup for my entire system. I am generally happy with the remote (for the price I paid..$105). The built-in database was a big plus to me, as I was able to use the remote right out of the box, before I had customized the GUI. Thank god for all the ccf's out there or I'd still be designing graphics for my setup today. The 2000 has good IR strength. I do wish the screen had greater sensitivity as it requires a pretty hard press with your fingertip. I turn my finger over and use my fingernail, which works much better, but its hard to get others to do that and I've watched other people pressing really hard on the screen (I'm worried it will break). The response time of the unit switching from screen to screen is a little slower than I'd like (it would be nice if it had a faster processor), but its not unbearably slow. The screen is bright and easy to read, especially with the lights dim or off. I have to give it a value rating of 5, because of the price I paid (haven't seen that it that cheap since). The ProntoEdit software could use some work in terms of the user interface, but it gets the job done. This is the first universal remote that has truly relegated all my other remotes to a drawer. Review: Replaced five remotes with this one! It took me a good weekend to figure out ProntoEdit but with the help from this site and a lot of hours I have it totaly customized and I love it, even my girlfiend can use it! Strengths: Once set up a one fingered monkey could operate it, easy to read screen, good amount of memory Weaknesses: B&W instead of color, silver "painted" plastice instead of solid color Review: Most of the people with negative comments just don't know how to program the remote. It isn't bad once you figure out how to do it. The one thing a lot of people don't understand is that this isn't something I would reccomend any Joe off the street to buy and set up. It is worth the street price if you know what you are doing with Pronto Edit, but if you are going to use the remote with it's built-in screens and database, you will be unhappy with it.
