|Review:||The Wee Remote is a great tool for your future HT enthusiasts in your family (and a great way to save the Pronto from sure demise). My daughter just turned 4 years old, and quickly mastered each of the buttons (set to 2 PBS channels, Nickelodeon, Disney, + 1 unused and is a duplicate of one of the PBS channels).|
She can now turn the TV on/off, mute the volume, adjust the volume, and pick a channel. The channel up/down cycles through the programmed channels.
The manuals (2 of them) were ok. They were extensive, but I found myself jumping from section to section and back.
The surprising challenge with my Sony TV was that I had to push the 100's, 10's, & 1's programming keys *1 less digit* than the actual channel. For example, for channel 22, I pressed the 100's 0 times; the 10's 1 time; and the 1's 1 time. Why?!?... because (i think) the hex codes for Sony's remotes for a 1 digit is 0, a 2 digit is 1, a 3 digit is 2, etc.
And here's the kudos to the RemoteCentral family. I had been reading some of the forums the night before we got the WeeRemote and also downloaded IR Tool. In doing so, I discovered the above Sony remote coding. Without this, I may not have quickly discovered why I hadn't been getting to the proper channels upon my 1st attempt to program the Wee Remote.
But then again, I'm not trying to be overly critical. Total time to program it was about 20 minutes... perhaps I just expected it to take 5 minutes. Now if only I could get those same results with ProntoEdit ;-)
Bottom line: This is a great remote for the kids!!
