Strengths:Replay TV Codes, Inexpensive, Controls 8 units.
Weaknesses:As with most remotes, not enough memory.
Review:I was looking for a remote that would do it all, without spending hundreds of dollars. This remote came about as close as I could find. It has ReplayTV codes built in (although I needed to program the commercial skip, instant replay and return to live buttons). It handles all funcitons on my RCA TV, RCA DSS, Sanyo VCR, Mitsubishi VCR. It handles most features of my Pioneer Receiver and Yamaha CD player automatically. Over all I'm very happy with the remote. I never need to go back to my original remotes for day to day functions.

You can probably find the remote new for around $40 on E-bay.

Strengths:Lots of excellent features once you learn to use them, especially the auto program features. Backlight is sweet. Can't really beat the value for the price. I'm finally down to one remote!
Weaknesses:The customer support people are ignorant, and the support for Replay TV needs ingenuity(see below). The IR Learn is a good concept, but had trouble with it in practice.
Review:YO, REPLAY TV USERS!!! I discovered by accident how to program a quick skip button. Here's how: Use the first VCR code (0631) as your main replay TV control as it matches up best for main controls. Use the second VCR code (0633), and program this as an AUX or something. In this mode, the SELECT button acts as a quick skip. You can use a macro key to switch to AUX, SELECT, and switch back to your main control, and it acts JUST LIKE A QUICK SKIP!

Strengths:Price, ease of programing, lots of codes.
Weaknesses:Weak LCD unless backlit, poor viewing angles. Less than Zero phone support!
Review:Paid $40+tax.
All in all a very good remote unless your expecting steak at hamburger prices. I'm happy considering 6 remotes are in a drawer! This remotes features should trickle down to a $15 unit in the near future.

The Remote codes were good for my newer VCRs, DVD, TV, CD. Some complete and others helped with learning a key here and there.

My 11 year old Carver CT-17 preamp/tuner required learning about 15 keys from the original remote. None of the supplied codes would work with this unit. I mapped all needed funtions onto the default TUNER code, no problems and easy. If ALL functions including surround were needed I would be out of memory and be paying more for an upscale unit. Your mileage with newer units should be fine. Get your unit locally, if full Surround key support is a must, for easy return.

Strengths:back light is impressive
Has Tivo preprogrammed (partially)
learning ability
Weaknesses:poor location of vcr controls
Review:I have had this remote for a while now
overall I am quite happy.

I was looking for a remote under $100 that could handle tivo , this does that.

It operates my Kenwood tuner, the buttons are a little inaccurate but not a factor.

I was able to program my ps2 dvd remote
add a little vcr controls , some tivo controls and not run out of memory. I have a RCA tv so that was already preprogrammed as was my cable box.I love my tivo "peanut" but it's great controlling everything with one remote.

One more thing I know the vcr buttons are a little ackward but there is really nowhere else to put them except where the navigation buttons are. You could always program that way if you really wanted to.

Strengths:Very cool display, fits in one hand, pre-programmed codes for many brands of video components. Clock.
Weaknesses:Difficult to set up. Can't erase the code for one function key. Users must delete the entire programs and reset to factory settings if a code was to be deleted.
Review:The remote does not allow the user to enter codes found in a different manual. The manual is very confusing. Not all the keys are available to learn commands from another remote. However, the price of the remote is not bad for what it does. I have the RC 2000 mk II but it is too much of a remote for the system where I am using the RCU810. This remote has a difficulty controling the basic functions of my Denon AVR 4800. It will not operate it under the receiver/tuner function. The blue light display creates a lot of attention and makes it looks like a higher end remote but this is not a high end remote by any means. It controls my Motorola Digital Cable Box with no need to enter codes. If someone can tell me how to operate it to delete a function on only one key, that will be great. Overall, this is a good remote for video components mainly. It won't control or perform various audio functions if your audio system includes a high end receiver, a decent CD player and a MD player.

Strengths:Backlight color ROCKS, easy setup, very configurable, great layout - GREAT REMOTE!
Weaknesses:Could use a bit more memory, but for your basic system (TV, cable box, good receiver, DVD player, VCR), it's fine. I HIGHLY recommend it
Review:This is a GREAT remote! It can learn just about anything! The only thing that it didn't seem to want to learn were the sound field IR signals from my Sony STR-DE845 receiver remote. It even learned all of the functions from my Playstation 2 DVD remote! So overall, I'm VERY impressed. If you're like I was and have a few browser windows open right now looking at different remotes, seriously...this one rocks...you'll LOVE it! The backlight is so cool...

Strengths:Durability, button feel, backlight, simple interface
Weaknesses:Memory, LCD quality
Review:I wanted to post an update now that I've had this remote for a while.

1) The durability is good. It has survived my 2 toddlers pretty well, esp considering our wood floors. It even scraped through a brief parrot attack without serious, permanent damage.
2) The LCD is pretty poor, although mine is still working. The glass (plastic, whatever) is higher on the left of the screen than it is on the right. Probably could try exchanging it, but it doesn't seem to affect performance. The LCD has the same problem as many small LCDs, some lines disappear occasionally, requiring a little pressure to make them show up again. Some have complained about the contrast, but I find it's more an angle problem. It is set to have optimal contrast viewing at about a 40-50 degree angle, or about the angle it sits in your hand while you point it forward. The display is positively invisible if you look at 90 degrees, or straight down at it.
3) Changed batteries after 3 months, not enough time to make adequate comparisons on battery life yet. But when I changed the batteries it lost the time data. Learned buttons, macros and devices all stayed intact through swapping batteries. At first when the batteries got low, the LCD went out and buttons didn't work. But after a few minutes the buttons came back to life and eventually the LCD did too with 'battery low' indicator showing up on the LCD; changed 'em and all is well.
4) Added a DVD player and it handled that almost perfectly. It's a Sony and the Enter button gets used in menus instead of the Select button which is more correct. One more button to learn.
5) The VCR buttons are the only ones I need to shift my one-handed grip to reach (I have large hands), but somethings got to be at the bottom and I use the VCR less than satellite, so it doesn't bother me much.

This definitely is not a remote for my home theater, but it handles a smaller TV-room decently. I dropped my quality rating from a 5 due to the problems with the LCD, but the buttons and plastics kept it at 4. For $40, this is pretty hard to beat.
