RTI’s much-anticipated T3x hybrid remote control is now shipping! It’s been a long time coming – we first heard about it way back at CEDIA 2013 – but considering everything that’s been packed into this control, it looks like the wait will have been worth it! Read more...

Just when we were coming to grips with the idea that the Philips Pronto was good and truly gone, comes a press release from Philips that digs up the old name again. Sing praise: the Pronto is back!
Well... sort of. The new Pronto has precious little to do with the advanced Pronto remote controls we’re all familiar with, and is more Philips capitalizing on a well-known (and respected) brand. In this situation, Philips has teamed up with Peel for an iPhone-based remote control system that utilizes the Peel Smart Remote App, paired with a small Bluetooth-based basestation, dubbed the “Pronto”, which features a central IR blaster and an “IR extension cable” for home theater control. A company called Performance Designed Products
(PDP) has announced what could be the very first Blu-ray remote control designed for the PS4.
It seems that Sony is always finding new ways to tick off home theater users – first by repeatedly refusing to add a standard CE infrared receiver to the many generations of PS3 consoles, and then on the PS4 by refusing to offer compatibility with or a replacement product for the one compromise the PS3 did have: the Bluetooth-based Sony Blu-ray Disc Remote Control. Thus, Sony has artificially made the PS4 one of the worst devices possible for media consumption – which is a true shame, since it should be one of the best. Read more...

In an almost simultaneous news release with sister company RTI, Pro Control has announced a slew of new products that they’ll be showing at the upcoming CEDIA Expo 2014 in Denver, Colorado, this coming September.
Again, much like with RTI, these products have been seen before – namely in our Pro Control CEDIA Video. However, as far as I know this is the first time that some of them have been formally announced with product photography! Read more...

RTI is prepping for CEDIA 2014 this coming September in Denver, and in anticipation of that have announced a list of new products that they’ll be exhibiting.
Unfortunately, it’s difficult not to notice that this year’s new product lists look substantively the same as last year’s new product list. T3x, KX3, KX1, AD-16x, XP-4 – they were all on the 2013 news release, too. However, those products that were far from available back then, are hopefully now either already shipping, or will soon be. The WK2 water-resistant in-wall keypad hasn’t been officially announced before now, but was discreetly previewed at CEDIA 2013. Read more...
