At CEDIA 2010 held next week in Atlanta, Georgia, URC will be making it clear why they no longer want to be known as “Universal Remote Control Inc.” While URC normally has a number of nifty new things at CEDIA to show off, this year the now more generically named tri-letter company will be introducing an impressively large slate of new products, including ones that definitely don’t qualify as universal remote controls. Logitech has just announced two new Harmony remote controls: the monochrome Harmony 600 for $79.99 USD MSRP, and the color Harmony 650 for $99.99. Both models can operate up to 5 devices, include backlit button layouts, use traditional disposable batteries, and sport styling similar to the previously announced Harmony 700. Read more...

Information was found this morning on Sony’s dealer site for three brand new economical universal remote controls. Here we bring you the first details on the preprogrammed 4-device RM-VZ220 and 7-device RM-VZ320, both of which include an all new ergonomic design and loads of hard buttons for DVR users. GE-slash-Jasco may not be the first brand name that jumps to your mind when thinking of universal remotes, however the “economical” end of the market is huge and they’ve been a strong player for many years. Today at CES they’re introducing a new 6-device hard buttoned remote called the GE 6-in-1 Universal DVR Remote. Read more...
