RC News Story
Compaq iPAQ H3950 PDAs, HPCs, Pocket PCs, Palms – whatever you call them, portable handheld computers are becoming more and more prevalent in this information-saturated world. This trend has not been lost on remote control manufacturers, who are eyeing such devices as an ideal way to piggyback remote control technology onto ever more advanced hardware.

Software and accessory makers have been coming up with ways to merge audio/video system control into the common PDA, starting even before the Pronto was released. The first true manufacturer-supported solution was a certain model of the Sony Clié, released earlier this year. But today, we will be looking at one of the latest additions not only to the remote control scene, but also the PDA world: the Compaq iPAQ H3900 series. Instead of developing their own remote control solution as Sony has done, Compaq opted to license technology from long-time remote maker Universal Electronics Inc. (UEI).

The iPAQ is the first such device to feature UEI’s new “Nevo” technology, which includes both hardware and software components. And while the Compaq iPAQ features a most impressive list of hardware components, just how well does it work as a remote control? Is the “Nevo” software really good enough to become your next remote control? Those questions and more will be answered in Remote Central’s latest full-length review. Curiosity piqued?

Read all about the Compaq iPAQ H3950 / UEI Nevo!
