Hello,

This is my system:
a) Olevia 537H (which had the RC-LTU remote)
b) HDTV Dish Network VIP622DVR
c) Sony Dream System DAV FX-80

All remotes were in a box that my movers misplaced. Movers claim that they did not do so. I cannot locate that box anywhere.

I'm desperate for a solution. I finally mounted my TV after 4 days of hardwork. I'd love to have an universal remote that can control all three. I have an old RC-LTU remote that works for the TV, but lacking the Dream System remote is driving me crazy. I checked for a replacement, and found it's really expensive for one.

Pls advise. I'd like an inexpensive universal remote for all 3 above. I'm totally new to universal remotes, but am very eager to learn.

Thanks in advance.

John

Inexpensive...as in under $50, under $100, under $150, etc? The definition of inexpensive varies from person to person.

I understand.

If I can manage under $50, and still have all 3 on one remote, I'd be a happy camper. If I have no option, but to go to $150, I think I can scrape up enough.

All I'd like to have is:
a) power on and off on the TV (Olevia 537H),
b) power on and off, volume up and down, (and speaker mode, if possible) on the Sony Dream System DAV FX-80
and
c) dish dvr remote (5.3 IR), which I just found that Dish can mail to me as a replacement for the lost one.

Thanks again. Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Try the Radio Shack 15-100. It's made by One-For-All and has a pretty large database of codes. I'd think yours are probably in there...but I can't confirm that (someone else here probably can).

If you can't get them in a OFA remote, you'd have to step up to a PC programmable one, the most basic of which are the Harmony ones.

Thanks so much, OTAHD. I'll do some research into the Radio Shack 15-100. If anyone else can provide more info, please do. I'm like glued to this page, waiting for responses from experts (like that of OTAHD). (I've googled like crazy all over, and am totally lost).

Pls provide any more info, anyone. Thx again.

There's one code for Olevia TV's in the online manual for that remote...it may have been updated since, I don't know as I don't have one. There's a ton of Sony codes for everything, hopefully one would work. I can confirm they will control the Dish Network equipment.

If you're just looking to control those devices, I'd give it a try - it's only $20 (until Saturday) and you can always return it if it doesn't work.

The only radio models with preset code for the olevia are the 15-133, 15-134, or 15-135, code in each is TV 11610. The 15-100 doesn't have this code.

The radio shack code for the Sony dream system is 31658. And the dish receiver code, if its set to address/unit #1 is 00775.

This is great info. Thx. I will give 15-133 a go. It's the first thing I'll do tomorrow morning. I'll keep you posted.

I just wanted to take a moment and thank edmund and OTAHD for their expert advice. I was able to get the 15-135 and it works AWESOME, connecting all 3 brilliantly!! This is great! Thanks once again in advance.

Quick query.. I've had fun with the 15-135, but my one year old daughter has had a liking for it as a chew-toy, and as of yesterday the 15-135 finally gave up on us. I don't mind getting another 15-135 (it worked just fine), but I'm curious if there are any other remotes (say, with better IR capability) at even a higher price range that I can perhaps try. Pls advise.

Are you having trouble getting the existing commands to work unless your closer to the electronics or are you your forced to point it in a specific direction to get the commands to work?

Or is your problem that you are missing specific commands that were on your original remotes but not on the radioshack remote?

It's actually both.. I need to be closer to my electronics and am forced to point it to the equipments to get it to work. I'm also missing certain commands that were on my original remote for my Sony Dream Station, but are not on the radioshack remote. Pls do be aware that I have lost my original remote for both my Sony Dream Station and my Olevia TV. Thanks.

I see your still waiting. Im not familiar with universal remote controls in the same way the gurus like OTAHD and edmund are so i didnt respond. I try to read every post on the board and i was curious about what your issue was and now i see its both. This might help someone else help you so it wasnt a complete waste of time :).

My suggestion would have been a learning remote control to get the uncommon commands. Unfortunately this usually only works if you have the original remotes to teach the commands.

If range is an issue its possible that the radio shack remote just needs to be replaced with something that has stronger output. If its a line-of-sight issue maybe someone can suggest an IR repeater or RF solution.
