I have
Samsung HDTV
Pioneer AV Receiver
Sky HD
MCE PC

I've had the Kameleon 6 one for all (first generation) which worked ok but its now old and some of the buttons arent responding and its not quite got what i need.

I've just purchased the Kameleon 10 in 1 URC-8210 and its really poor build quality much worse than the older 6 for one, so much so that I'm sending that back and looking for a new remote.

Can anyone suggest what may be suitable for me, I'm looking at spending no more than £80 ($150) and ideally I'd like something with actual buttons not the fake screen effect that the kameleons have as both of these that i've had can be very unresponsive.

I've been looking at a much cheaper alternative like this one [Link: amazon.co.uk] and wondering if that would do the job (I really don't have the need for a monster remote, I just want it to operate my equipment and be reliable)

to follow this is by far the best looking one ive seen

[Link: amazon.co.uk]

that may give you an idea of the kind of style i would like...I guess the harder part for it to be compatible with will be my MCE PC

Check out the Logitech Harmony on Amazon. Several are under $150

cheers,
not sure about the harmony, looks a little more complicated than i'd like (like the kameleon) and it looks ugly as sin as well.

i'd like to get away with having a display of any sort if possible

A little late, but if you're still checking, you can probably use URC's MX-700. It has a LCD screen, but it is non-touchscreen.

www.surfremote.com is an authorized dealer and has it for $155.

It is computer programmable but pretty easy to do.

I would take OTAHD advice. The URC's are perfect for what you are trying to do. It does have an LCD as he said, but it's not touch. It's a perfect remote for you. Go to the URC website and check out the remotes and see what fits your budget and needs.

Re the MX-700 Terrible advice.....the OP has (British) Sky HD for which it is essential that he has teletext-esque coloured buttons. That URC doesn't appear to have them PLUS it's butt ugly.

Ugly is a matter of opinion. The remotes work great. I guess the teletext is a problem though...

So please explain why you think it is ugly. I personally think it is one of the best looking remotes made. And it functions wonderfully to boot.

LOL, remote looks a lot better than my wedding pictures.

Getting a remote should be all about functionality and not looks.
I've had the MX-500 for years and can highly recommend it to anyone. It's a remote that you don't have to look at to see where to push for controlling whatever you want to control. You get to know the feel, function and location of your buttons very quickly. The 500 can be bought on ebay for under $70. The MX-700 is a newer model and has better backlighting as well as software programming.
URC have several more models up to the MX-850 that all look the same and there is a reason for that: You can't beat the layout for ease of use.

The wife will be the first one to let you know how beautiful it is ...because it'll take her less than 5 minutes to figure it all out.
