I have a Sony VPL-VW100, 7.1 sound system, lutron lighting system, and will have a pioneer VSX-84-TXSI receiver, a replay tv or a satelite company dvr, satelite/cable tv inputs, a playstation 3/xbox 360, and a computer connected. I'd like to be able to connect a computer to the system and control it with the remote as well. I have a wireless home network so it would be nice to be able to interface with that too.

I'd like to spend <$1,000, and saw that the Logitech Harmony 1000 and Phillips TSU9600 are coming out soon. I want something that's powerful but also easy for my whole family to use. What would you suggest?

Define "powerful" - do you want full customization like a Pronto, or an "almost ready made" solution like a Harmony?

I don't really understand the difference. I've never bought a touchscreen remote before and thought they all had some preset screens and let you customize them to some degree. I'd like to be able to do as many useful things as possible with the remote and don't mind spending a few minutes setting it up, as long as its extremely easy to use.
