My TSU 500 has finally died. I am having difficulty choosing a replacement. I have a basic set up; HD cable box, HDTV big screen, DVR, Yamaha DVD, Denon receiver. I am looking for a remote that is easy to program (via computer if necessary), wife friendly, one button on features and under $500. Any suggestion?

Hi there,
there is a lot of choice for a top quality remote nowadays, it kind of depends on your own personal preference. What you require to be done is quite typical and thus you will find no problems establishing a brand that can conduct the tasks - often at a low cost.

i suggest you search the internet via web browsers and search engines to find what could be a quality product to use with your infra-red equipment. Back in the day, i used to program old tele-connect equipment which used to run on far simpler hardware than some of the universal remotes out today. Much frustration occured when the signal did not correspond to the correct out put on the infra-red signal, there is a lesson to be learnt here... ensure the remote you select can handle all your equipment as well as have plenty of codes and learning abilities in order to stay fresh with the technology.

I have read on this forum that perhaps updating by computer is NOT what is good, as quite often programming remotes via the computer and updating codes can cause what we call "fractional extrapolation", where devices incur faults due to incorrect signals being transferred - a huge problem for many Sony brand users.

All in all, be certain that whichever you choose, you are happy with its features and remember the old motto from the industry:

Failing to plan is planning to fail.

Good luck!!

if you had a Pronto NEO, I would just go with the Pronto or ProntoPro
