Wow it worked like a charm. We actually had to double up the paper but it's working wonderfully.

You are a rockstar!

Thanks so much!

kupakai,

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

RemoteCentral.com and your post on March 13th, 2007 solved my problem when Comcast had no clue. All Comcast tech support should read your post!

I recently signed up for cable through Comcast. I was provided a Motorola DCT700 cable box and a Comcast remote (light silver with red OK button). I set up the system according to instructions but the remote would not even power on the box. I contacted Comcast support via phone and they said the box was bad and I needed to get a new one.

I contacted my Comcast rep who tried three other boxes and a different remote. He spent an hour with Comcast tech support over the phone and they could not get the box working. Comcast tech support thought there may be a problem with the signal strength on my cable. I was told a Comcast tech would have to come out and troubleshoot the line. They wouldn't be able to send someone out until Monday (Sep 3, 2012).

So, I started doing my own troubleshooting.

Since the box wouldn't even power on with the remote, I suspected a remote issue. I did an internet search and found your post. I did a blink back (search the forum for how to) to find out what the current code on the CBL remote was and found it was 01877. I reprogrammed the CBL button to 01376 AND THE BOX AND REMOTE NOW WORK.

With your information, I had solved the problem in 5 minutes when two different Comcast support techs and a Comcast local rep spent over two hours and couldn't figure it out.

I'm guessing Comcast doesn't send out too many DCT700 boxes, but still, they should verify the remote code is correct and the remote works with the box before sending it to a customer! They are supposed to be the experts. It appears there is a serious hole in their tech support.

Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

Kevin

Hi all,

I've read all this thread expecting that I will resolve my problem but unfortunately not (yet). Here is the situation:
- comcast Motorola cable box
- Emerson TV (code 10171 worked)
- tried lots of codes for comcast box (including 01982 and 01376 but also all Motorola codes for cable boxes)

So, the remote works with my TV but not with my comcast box ("power" button will have no effect on the box: still displaying "0" and not powered on).

Not sure that it's a remote issue thought, because when I click the "power" button directly on the cable box, nothing happens (still displaying "0").

Could anyone please help?

Thanks,
Tom

This 5 year old thread from Kupaki solved my problem
THANK YOU!!!!
We were given a new uncompatible Comcast remote to replace a worn old one same basic model- red ok button
The remote and cable box did not recognize each other. Time wasted on on the phone while my cable box was reprogrammed and off for 45 minutes and still non functional. On a whim, I did a 5 second search for this topic, this thread is the 3rd in the results
30 seconds to plug in the 982 to unlock the remote and then program in the first Motorola code in the list workedfor the DCT 700 cable box
For the thousands of dollars we spend a year for our cable and internet services, not having this 3 digit code at every phone service techs hands is unforgiveable. They are too busy using scripted minimalist support with instructions to sell service packages for protection than giving people a 3 digit simple numbers that solve hours of wasted time

Do you have any more of those code? One of them worked for only one of my remotes.

I just registered to thank 3FG for helping everyone on here. You are a genius!!!!! I just got a new remote (dark gray with red Ok button) for the black digital Cisco box and it worked for my JVC TV but did NOT work for the box itself. Did what he told JKeene81 and I'm good now. It took me a few minutes to find this but he just saved me a trip to Comcast Service Center. God bless you 3FG!!!!!! :-)

A. Do a partial reset
1) Press setup until 2 blinks
2) Enter 980
The remote should blink 4 times.

B. Turn off cable setup code lock
1) Press CBL
2) Press Setup until 2 blinks
3) Enter 982
The remote should blink 4 times.  If it blinks twice, do the procedure again.

C.  Assign setup code 01877 (Scientific Atlanta) to CBL  (note: For Motorola boxes, use 01376 or 01982)
1) Press CBL
2) Press Setup until 2 blinks
3) Enter 01877
The remote should blink 2 times.

Let's try the following.

A. Do a partial reset
1) Press setup until 2 blinks
2) Enter 980
The remote should blink 4 times.

B. Turn off cable setup code lock
1) Press CBL
2) Press Setup until 2 blinks
3) Enter 982
The remote should blink 4 times.  If it blinks twice, do the procedure again.

C.  Assign setup code 01376 to CBL
1) Press CBL
2) Press Setup until 2 blinks
3) Enter 01376
The remote should blink 2 times.

Check if the remote will control the cable box.  If not, try C. with 01982.

D.  Assign setup code 10000 to TV
1) Press TV
2) Press Setup until 2 blinks
3) Enter 10000
The remote should blink 2 times.

I have a dolby digital converter set top supplied by Comcast. The black remote that came with it is missing (I have 5 children). I have an extra Comcast remote (with grey ok) which I was able to program to control the tv (on/off, volume) but I cannot get it to work with the digital converter box to change the channel.

Is anyone aware of the programming code to make this work?

Thank you in advance!

The Comcast remote with the grey OK/Select button is not able to control your digital converter box.  The needed setup code is Cable 1982 (01982 for 5 digit remotes like the red OK/Select Button), but the grey button remote is too old.

A red button Comcast remote is typically available on eBay for $6 shipped if you search.  It will work.

Greetings,

I need some help and after reading this thread I believe this is where to get it. However, there is so much information I am confused. Here is what is going on.

Orinally had this set up:
Comcast box Cisco RNG200N and Silver Remote with Red OK button
Sony TV KDL-52W4100
LG BluRay BD390

When Comcast left our house their remote turned the TV and the Comcast box on and off when the All On button was pushed and the remote controlled the TV volume.

Now at Christmas we were presented with a Yamaha receiver RX-A720 and speakers. All the other equipment remains. The Comcast box and BluRay are connected to the receiver with HDMI cables and the receiver is connected to the TV with a HDMI cable. I tried a stint at programming the Yamaha remote with limited sucess. At this point the Comcast remote turned the Comcast box, the TV and receiver on when I pushed the All On button (no changes in the Comcast remote programming). However, pushing the All On button a second time would only turn off the TV and Comcast box. The volume control buttons would adjust the receiver volume.

We lived with using the Comcast remote to turn things on and off and then turn the receiver off with the Yamaha remote.

Well since I had had such poor luck with the Yamaha remote, I decided to see if I could program the Comcast remote to both turn on and off the receiver. I thought that the Aux button would be a good choice since nothing was connected to it.

Long story short, I tried a number of Yamaha codes and all were accepted but would not power the unit off. I did some internet searching and tried more codes. Nothing has worked.

However, I have lost the ability to use the Comcast remote to turn the receiver on when the All On button is pushed and the volume control botton when pushed shows a set of moving white bars on the screen but does not change the receiver volume.

With all that said, can you help me get the Comcast remote back to where it was before the receiver was added so maybe it will then control the receiver volume. I will give up on having it turn the receiver off.

Sorry to be so lond, however, I thought you should know what has gone on so you can provide the best help.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I think you've now posted at hifi-remote that everything is working.  However, in case others have a similar question, to return the remote to as-delivered condition, do a 980 reset.
1) Press setup until 2 blinks
2) Enter 980
The remote should blink 4 times.

Hi I have a Motorola DCT 700 and a comcast remote with a red ok/select button. I just got a new Sanyo tv and at first, the remote seemed to work fine. I programmed it so that it controls the volume and power but nothing else will work. Although, it did work about 3 times and that's it. The red light does turn on and I tried the IR test and my remote is fine. I tried multiple codes from this thread but nothing seems to work! Hopefully I have explained everything good enough!
Thank you! Am grateful for any help!!
