After more years on the internet than I care to remember...to come across a forum dedicated to remote controls...wow. ;-)

I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

I have meager needs, my devices currently are:

Polaroid 32" LCD HDTV
Apex AD-600A DVD player
Comcast HD STB (forget the specific model)
and...
Mvix MV-4000U Multimedia HD Player: [Link: mvixusa.com]

My problem is the Mvix box. Nothing at all has codes for it so trying to integrate remotes will require something that can fully learn the codes for a device. It's operation is most like a DVD player.

I'm looking for a remote that would be able to learn this device and integrate the remaining devices. I'm extremely technologically literate so programming doesn't scare me, I just want to be sure to get a remote that has the capability to do what I need.

I don't need fancy EL displays, would rather have hard buttons (kids), and don't want to spend a ton of money. From what I've been able to read here the URC MX-500 might do the trick...am I on the right track?

Any guidance anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Keith

i had a zenith learning remote that i picked up at Best buy a few years ago for $30 that could learn to any button. It had some trouble iwth dish network remotes learning but would do it. Go to any electronics superstore and they will likely have a $30 learning remote that will do what you want.

Otherwise the mx series remotes are great. I have no experience with the lower end non computer programmable ones though.

Yeah...the MX-500 will do it fine. It has the LCD screen but no soft buttons, and is not computer programmable. If you're looking to do macros, go for at least the MX-700, as it's PC programmable and you can get the discrete codes.

If you're looking just to consolidate, not have macros, and want all hard buttons, go for something like URC's R7.

Depends on what you want to do.
