My collection of (3) MX-700 remotes are getting long in the tooth. I love LOVED this remote but after a while the buttons get sticky and the serial method of programming leaves a lot to be desired. However, I kept them simply because computer programming is a must. I don't like the layouts imposed by the manufacturers.
So what is the defacto replacement these days for the venerable MX-700? I think I skipped over the last URC generation and nothing seems to pop out as the replacement. Most are discontinued.
I'd prefer something, anything over a Logitech.

A fundamental decision is: do you want a traditional "wand" type of remote with hard buttons (that may never be in the right place) or a "screen" type where you can layout the buttons any way you like? There is also a sort of middle ground where a few hard buttons surround a somewhat programmable screen.
Do you want to use a phone or pad as your hardware?
Do you want the configuration process to be similar to what you are used to with the MX-700's or are you comfortable being up to your armpits in computer code?

Check out the URC MX-780 or MX-890 both are fantastic remotes. Go over to Surf Remote Control to check them out. Mike

I think that is what I wanted Mike. I'll look into them. Thanks.
