Hey guys! I recenter got an old marantz integrated amp pm17 series second hand off someone for nothing. They didn't know what they had!! Only problem is that they didn't have the remote. All I want is a remote to control volume...that's all. Not picky. Tried a RCA universal remote and no dice. Is the amp just too old? I called marantz themselves and they were completely useless.

Help please!!

It uses the standard Marantz IR codes.  Many cable remotes can be manually programmed to send most of the codes--e.g. a Comcast remote, Atlas, Time Warner.  If you don't want to bother with entering in some 5 digit numbers, get a RCA RCRP05B and use setup code Audio 1189 or 1289.

Instructions for a Comcast remote are here.

Are you interested in getting a remote to work?  If so, post what "options" you tried, including which remotes you used, and if you entered 5 digit EFCs, did you get the correct blinking from the LEDs during the procedure?
