I'm feeling my pronto is due retirement but i cannot figure out what is on the market that offers the level of customisation and general usefulness of the 950. I'm tempted by the Harmony Ultimate because of its Nest compatibility, but can it offer the macros and everything else i am used to from the pronto? is there something else i should be considering? thanks

Why not purchase a used Pronto Professional TSU9x00 remote and extender off EBay and call it a day? You couldn't pay me to use any of the alternatives out there at present as far as conventional remote control solutions go and any of those solutions that do offer a similar level of customization and flexibility will be protected lines where the software isn't freely available to download. No thank you. The fact that the Pronto line of remotes has been discontinued is irrelevant as far as I'm concerned. So long as there is used inventory out there the choice should be clear. At least it is for me.

Ok guys, I haven't been her in a while, but why does it seem we don't have a choice for a new remote anymore? I had multiple prontos and have moved to nevos (sl, s70, q50) which have also been discontinued. I want a new programmable remote with a nice touchscreen and hard button mix, but can't find one. Anyone have any suggestions besides buying an old remote on ebay?
Thanks!
Mark

Mark Not sure if you've checked out the links in my previous post, but I'm afraid that for the diy'er what you're looking for doesn't appear to exist any more (and some of the prices for the pro stuff are just a nonsense, though I'm sure the pros would take me to task over thinking that). Fortunately I was able to find a new old stock replacement for my Xsight Touch, which although limited I do have high regard for. However, with the passing of my father in law I've now got a Galaxy 3 tab that I'm thinking of trying TouchSquid on. Seems that apps like this are the future for the diy'er.

Thanks djy, I had not looked at your links... The RTI does look promising, but if I read you right, we are not allowed to program it ourselves? I refuse to own a remote I cannot change myself. Let alone pay what you are hinting at it costing.
I'm not a fan of the tablet (ipad) solution. I don't want to look at my tablet to just change channels and bump the volume up or down. I like some hard buttons.
Thanks again, Mark

I must confess to being of a similar mind in regard to the tablet solution, but having inherited the Galaxy, and the app being not overly expensive, I thought I'd give it a go. In regard to the expense of the T2i, it carries and MSRP of $499 (plus whatever taxes and programming costs). Over here, the only price I've found is circa £750 (approximately $1200 at the present exchange rate), but I don't know if that's inc. or ex. VAT (20%). And of course there's the programming cost to add, hence my opinion of its being silly money. Finally, as far as I'm aware, the only user programmable hybrid remote currently available is the Harmony Ultimate One.

djy,
Thanks for the info about the Harmony Ultimate One. I hadn't seen it before, and I've never been a fan of Harmony remotes in the past, but I may have to try one since it seems to be the only option having touchscreen and hardbuttons. I just wonder if the screens are only preprogrammed templates or if they are totally customizable like the prontos or the nevos?
Do you know if Daniel has done a review of it? I couldn't find it in the reviews.
Thanks again, Mark
