I have a UPC rf20 paired with its flasher base station. This combo has worked great for years but as I add gear in my mancave the URC is becoming unstable.

I have a Boxee Box which has its own RF remote and a set of Dynaudio RF speakers and the URC is constantly getting jammed.

My setup is very simple, an Emotive pre/pro a Verizon STB, a PS3 and a Fiber optic line from my PC.

What would work with this without the interference causing a problem?

1) Try moving the rf base station as far away from the equiment as possible. Pay attention to the status light on the base station if it's lit up or blinking then keep moving it around.

2) Upgrade to one of URC's more expensive remotes that end in "i" for example MX900i or MX980i. And replace the existing base station with an MRF350i. These remotes run off differnet frequency range than the rest of their remotes (433 instead of 418 MHz). This base station has a seperate antenna (instead of having it built in like the less expensive models) giving you the ability to move away from the rest of equipment.

3) Replace it with a Wi-Fi, iPad, or Android based solution so that you don't have to worry about rf interference anymore.

Actually I dont know what the problem is. I think that RF interference is a problem but with both of the interfering units powered off the URC still doesnt perform very well. the sweet spot just seems to never be in the same spot twice.

When I first purchased this pair the performance was nearly magic, I swear that there was not a single glitch in 2-3 years, now nothing but problems.

Is there a better unit that is more reliable?

One of the problems is that when URC originally designed that remote many of the products on the market didn't come in cheap plastic cases with built in Wi-Fi or have their own proprietary RF remotes. The result is a lot of interference. A good example is a lot of the Sony Blu-Ray players.

The other issue is that their less expensive lines of remotes and base stations have always had a lot more issues with rf interference. In my experience it's been any of the ones with the built in rf antennas.

My recommendations would be what I listed in my second and third responses.
