I use two remotes to record SAT TV shows onto DVD. I use the SAT remote to jump past the adverts and the like, and I use the DVD remote to pause while jogging/pausing the SAT feed.

The question is, will a macro capable remote allow me to link these two functions. Perhaps I create an activity called "SAT to DVD" and in doing so it allows me to pause the DVD with one button, then jog the SAT and unpause the DVD when I get to the right place. I would still also possibly need to pause both DVD and SAT at the same time?

Is that the kind of function macros can provide?

Yes and no. It all depends on how flexible the remote you get is with regards to macros.

You would need one with variables to do it reliably.

You could easily put FF(sat) & Pause(dvd) together, along with PLAY(sat) & REC(dvd).
The problem would be every time you hit PLAY on the Sat box it would also sened the RECORD command to the DVD.
If your DVD recorder will unpause the recording by pushing Pause again, then this would work fine.
"You can't fix stupid."
