I've got a Time-Warner Samsung STB (no DVR) & Sony TV. I'm using a Cables-to-Go 40430 wired IR extender, as the TV is wall mounted and the STB is on a shelve in the laundry room on the other side of the wall. My wife is always getting things screwed up with the STB on & TV off or STB off & TV on. The T-W guide is difficult to navigate, as it lists everything, and our package only gets a small portion of it. It's also difficult to enter the 4 digit channel number without getting a double entry on a digit, or taking too long, with it changing channels before you've got all the digits entered.

Ideally I'd like a remote where I can create my own channel guide of just the channels that we actually receive, and be able to select a channel with a single key press. I'd also like to be able to scroll up and down through this list of valid channels.

I believe that the volume is controlled on the TV not the STB.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Can't you adjust the channels out of thhe guide on the TW box?

Also, what's your price range?

Look into some of the App remotes, those may be your best bets.

The problem with the TW STB guide is that there's too many channels listed that aren't valid for the package that we have. The channels we want to watch are spread over many pages.

At this point I'm considering the Harmony 650, with 23 favorites. I think I figured out that the 650 only has favorites on the TV activity, but if I go to the Harmony One I can have 24 favorites on each of multiple activities, Can anyone confirm that for me?

You should be able to go in and take the channels you don't get and don't watch out of the guide.

So I decided on a Phillips Prestigo SRT8215, 15 devices, color touch screen, 200 favorites, PC programming, $80 at JR.com ... what's not to like.

I got it programmed for my Sony TV and Samsung cable box (didn't know about the cable box, had to teach it each button). Then I started on the favorites, only to find out you can only program 3 digit channel numbers, most of what I wanted to put in favorites is 4 digit. I'm so disappointed .... it will have to go back.
