Where do I start..

I have an AV cupboard with AV equipment which I need to control from 3 different locations via RF(reason for RF is it needs to travel through walls and 1 storey/floor), but I also need to control devices in that room that are IR controlled(tv's) so I think I need a remote to do both?!. The maximum distance from the Av cupboard at anyone time will be approx a radius of 30ft.

For remote I've looked at the PRONTO-TSU9600/RTI/HARMONY
Needs to be able to: run macros

For RF receiver I've looked at the MSC-400, MRF-350
Needs to be able to: emite to: Sky, Matrix, Pc, Nuvo Grand Concerto

All cabling would have to be in the AV cupboard and minimal if none at the tv locations.

I really dont mind spending a few quid buying the right equipment. I'd like to use RS232 (but i'm not sure I could do that via RF to then convert it to IR in the AV cupboard!). I just want it to be text book and work when asked, and as if your in the same room.

Can anyone help me put this to bed. I've literally spent months on it. The person with the best solution gets a McDonalds coffee voucher and a picture of me with a big smile and thumb up while drinking a coffee.

P.s Do not like the URC they look like a polished..

So you are looking at URC RF Receivers and PRONTO-TSU9600/RTI/HARMONY remotes. Don't think that's gonna work since the URC RF receivers only work with their own remotes. And since you think they look like something polished (????), you're ship-out-of-luck with URC, I guess (even though they meet all your requirements).
I think you should just go Harmony, and good luck with that!

Well actually I'm looking in to RTI. They do both IR RF! But not sure how I would go about programming/learning rako lighting for RF commands. From what i've read of them over the last 6 hours they will be more than enough.

Looking at:
RTI: T3V, RTI RP6 , & RM433.

It's either that or treat myself to an IPhone!

You won't find ANY remote that will shoot RF to something other than their own system, meaning you can only use a RTI RF Remote to send RF to a RTI RF receiver, same for URC, same for Harmony, ect. You cannot learn RF from a factory remote to anyone's universal remote.

Yeah, I got there but thanks all the same. I've now started to look at the IPhone for me and my son this christmas so trying to kill two birds with one stone.

Does anyone know if I can use a base station within the AV cupboard to then connect to equipment via rs232 and pass commands to it via wifi?

RTI has released their Virtual Panel for Microsoft Windows and they will soon be releasing iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad integration as well. Unfortunately, soon could be 6 months out.

This would require a pro to program though because it's dealer only software. It will also require an XP-8 processor and they aren't cheap. Maybe you should look into Bitwise Controls. This would probably fit your budget better but you may have some limitations. I'm very familiar with RTI but haven't worked with Bitwise so I can't answer any questions there. If I were you, I'd start researching there and see if it's a viable solution for you.

As far as minimal to no wiring to the TV's, you aren't getting NO if you use an iPhone because they can't emit IR. You would have to run a cat-5 or some type of 2 conductor cable at the minimum to each display.

There are other IP control systems out there as well so maybe someone else will chime in with another "possibly better" solution.

Good luck......
