Comcast in New Jersey gives out two 1 Motorola DCT700 (full set top box) and 2 Motorola DTA100 (simple digital converters) with their "starter" package. Having two TV's in one room, I want to independently control the DCT700 for one TV and a DTA100 for the other one. At first glance, it seems impossible because the remote that came with the DCT700 appears to simultaneously control both boxes. HOWEVER, the remote that came with the DTA100 controls ONLY the DTA100!

Sooo... What remote/code combination must I use to control only the DCT700? Having tried One-for-all's URC-10820, I found two Moto codes that work with a DCT700 - but they also control the DTA100. Since the 10820 is a learning remote, I'll be happy to teach it some DCT700-only codes, but where do I get them? Unfortunately, Motorola tech supt couldn't answer this question - or even the simple question "can a Motorola DRC450 control a DTA100?". Any ideas?

Well, it would have helped if you provided a little more detail, but here goes.

If the OneForAll URC-10820 has a N suffix, and not B00, it can shoot setup code Cable 1982. That should control only the DTA100. I don't know if the DRC450 has Cable 1982, but it could be worth a try.

Here in California, Comcast supplies the 1067/1167 Silver remote with the full set top box. The ones which have a red OK/Select button have Cable 1982 built in. With that remote, the setup code to use is 01982, but you need to have first unlocked the cable setup code in order to change the cable button setup code. See the 9XX command instructions, using command 982.

I expect cable 0476/1376 to control the DCT700.

That was very helpful because I didn't know there was a OneForAll code specifically for the DTA100. That saved me a bit of "learning" time with the DTA100's remote. Unfortunately, what I'm trying to find is something that ONLY controls the DCT700. While 0476 and 1376 both control the DCT700, they also control the DTA100. Is it possible that those codes are actually supersets of 1982? In other words, could it be that anything controlling a DCT700 will ALWAYS control a DTA100?

Learn the DTA code? Probably not... it is the XMP IR protocol and most remotes cannot learn all of the commands. Typically IR signals are designed so that the durations of the on and off times signify zeros and ones. But XMP has 16 different durations, corresponding to the hexadecimal digits 0 through F, and it is notoriously difficult to learn.

Setup code 0476 and 1376 are the General Instruments IR protocol. It is not related to XMP in any way. The DCX3400 (a full set top box) responds to both Cable 1982 and 0476/1376, and apparently so does the DTA100.

Perhaps there is a way to tell the DTA100 to ignore the GI (0476) signals, but I don't know what to try.

Oh. I hadn't thought about it that way. It makes sense though that Comcast told their suppliers "we don't care what your device's native code is, just make sure it works with 0476". In any case, I appreciate your efforts in explaining what's going on.
