I am currently in the process of finishing my basement. I am planning on having all of my components hidden in a closet and just having my 50" Samsung plasma on the wall.
I have Comcast HD DVR for my cable, a PS3, an Onkyo stereo, and a Wii.

I really have no idea what the best way to go on the remote is. Do I have to get a RF remote?? Is it possible to run the components with a IR remote? I am kind of stuck and don't know what my best options are. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The DVR and Onkyo use IR, and it is possible to add a repeater with emitters taped to the front of each. The PS3 uses BlueTooth, and presents problems in interfacing to either a RF or IR remote. Here's some discussion of adding IR: www.remotecentral.com/articles/ps3-ir-remote.htm.  The Wii remote is actually a camera which looks an array of IR light in the "sensor bar".  Neither IR or RF can work with the Wii.

Ok thanks, I don't really care if the remote controls the PS3 anyway. What would be your recommendation as to which repeater to buy?? I will need about 30 foot or more of wire from the sensor to the repeater. Thanks

A little spendy for me, anything comparable in the $200 range?

JoeFlabitz is recommending an RF based system. A cheaper, but less flexible, possibility is an IR based repeater system.

I have no experience with either IR or RF extenders, so the following link is not a recommendation, but it looks to me like it would work in your particular situation.
www.logitech.com/index.cfm/remotes/universal_remotes/devices/6347&cl=us,en

You should be able to Google on "IR extender", and see the various possibilities.

You could look at the RFS200 from URC's consumer lineup which has RF too.
