I have a Home Theater Master MX600 and I love it. Later I bought a used MX500 on Ebay for a bedroom and found that the center button on the direction pad is different. On the MX600 there is a notable click. On the MX500 the center does not click and is difficult to press without hitting one of the directions.

I want to buy my father a new remote. If I buy him a new MX500, will the center button click or will it be like the used MX500 I bought on Ebay?

Probably will be the same. You should get him a MX-850, that is the latest version of that remote and has a seperate button in the center of the D-pad.

Thanks for the reply! Hmm. It is a lot more expensive though, ~$250 versus ~$65. Maybe I'll get the 850 and give him my 600. :)

You do pick up RF in the MX850, but you'll need a MRF260 at the least.

Reading about the MX850, apparently it isn't programmable via the remote itself, a PC must be used. I'm not into this at all! I like how my MX500/MX600 are programmed and I wouldn't want to mess with a PC to do it, and especially not at someone else's house.

If the MX500 just had a decent center button, I would be satisfied. :(

I ended up buying a URC RF20 remote for $55 shipped. This is a decent price, has the nice layout of the MX500, the center button is separate from the directions, and has the option to use RF.

Thanks guys!
