I'm very new to all of this and am struggling to understand how it works. So I appreciate any help I can get.
I have a Harmony one and there is no entry in their database for the DC triggers on my Yamaha receiver. However, I have found the extended IR codes for them.

They are listed as being in the "NEC format" and they have an "id1 and id2" setting. Each of these entries has a custom code and a data code. Each of these codes is a two digit hex number like "7E".

I guess what I need is a remote that I can program with these codes and then I can teach my Harmony remote the needed commands.

Is that right? If so does anyone have any recommendations for a very cheap remote that I can program with these codes?
Thanks

Yes, there are a few. Most Yamaha IR signals use the NEC1 protocol, with device 122 (7A in hexadecimal notation), and just about any universal remote can shoot those signals. Many of the newer Yamaha receivers also use device 126 (7E). Very few universals have this possibility built-in. The remotes which are known to work for nearly all commands sent with device number 126 (7E) are:

*RCA RCRP05B $20 at Best Buy (sister remote is OneForAll OARP05S, available on the web.)
*OneForAll URC-10820N or URC-8820N Web, but make sure suffix is N and not B0
*OneForAll URC-7940, 7950, and 8350. More likely available in Europe
*Vizio VUR8
Typically, for discrete functions, it will probably be necessary to enter a 5 digit EFC to send that function. We can provide the EFCs, or show you how to generate them yourself.

There are a few Yamaha signals which use device 126, and which have a non-standard data code format. These are listed in the extended IR codes page for some receivers. The only way I know to get a remote to send these signals is by loading from a computer. Any of the above remotes can be programmed to do that, but the interface cable costs $30 plus $5 shipping.

Post the link to the extended IR codes, and we can tell you which of the codes, if any, are in non-standard format.

Thank you very much. I'm afraid I don't understand some of that but here are the IR codes I'm interested in.

ID1 Custom Code=7E, Data Code=73: ID2 same as ID1
ID1 Custom Code=7E, Data Code=74: ID2 same as ID1
ID1 Custom Code=7E, Data Code=71: ID2 same as ID1
ID1 Custom Code=7E, Data Code=72: ID2 same as ID1
ID1 Custom Code=7E, Data Code=83: ID2 same as ID1
ID1 Custom Code=7E, Data Code=84: ID2 same as ID1

Well, if you're not willing to post a link, how about telling us the model number of the receiver? In other words, it's possible that you need more knowledge than you currently have in order to be able to extract and post all the relevant information.

Sorry, I'm not trying to hide anything. I can't remember where I got it but I have a pdf on my computer that has the IR codes. I don't have a link to it. I simply copied the relavent ones and put them in my post above. I thought that was all that was needed. I obviously am lacking the knowledge to do this on my own.

The receiver is the Yamaha RX-V1800. I just searched and the document can be found online but I'm not sure how to provide the url. The url below is my attemp to paste it into this post.
Thanks

The link worked great! The remotes I mentioned above can do all of the codes except those that have 4 hexadecimal digits in the data column. For example, the function labeled Adaptive DRC On with data 740B can't be sent unless you upload it from a computer. I think there are 7 functions which can't be sent. All the codes you are interested in can be sent without interfacing to a computer. I'll post the EFCs (I doubt any of these functions are standard on any universal remote) and instructions on how to send them later.

Use setup code Audio 1476, or for the 7940, 7950, or 8350 use setup code 1815. The Vizio and 8350 need a 3 prepended to the setup code.

Dev hex OBC EFC
126 71 113 49541
126 72 114 49029
126 73 115 50053
126 74 116 48261
126 83 131 64389
126 84 132 62597

Assign a setup code by pressing Audio or Amp, prssing setup until 2 blinks, enter the setup code. The remote should blink twice to indicate that it recognized the setup code.

You can test an EFC by pressing Audio
1) Press Setup briefly
2) Enter the 5 digit EFC. When the 5th digit is entered, the remote will send the IR signal.

To assign a EFC to a button (makes teaching the Harmony easier) Press Audio
1) Press Setup until 2 blinks
2) Enter 994 (2 blinks)
3) Press Setup
4) Enter the 5 digit EFC
5) Press the button to assign this function to.
The remote should blink twice.

Wow! Thank you very much. I'm going to go to BB this weekend and buy the RCA RCRP05B and give it a try. Thanks again.
