Hi,
I purchased a Marantz SR4200 5.1 amplifier and I don't have the remote controller. I know that the original modell is RC5200SR, but I cannot find it at a reasolable price. Can someone suggest a cheap URC?
With many thanks, Silviu

I advise you to save your money and get the original or, as advised here, an RC5400SR. It's the only way to guarantee full functionality.

I received an offer with an original RC4300SR. Do you think I can use it. I cannot order from the site you suggested because only the shipping will cost me 30$. :(

The original remote has the best mapping of button names to functions. However, there are a number of cheap universal remotes which can control the SR4200.
Marantz publishes the complete details of their IR signals. Given that data, we can see that any remote made by Universal Electronics that carries setup code Audio 1189 or 1289 is capable of sending every IR signal that the SR4200 understands. This includes just about any Radio Shack remote starting with the number 15-xxxx, any cable remote of the Atlas type, nearly any OneForAll, and higher end Vizio TV remotes.
Newer remotes include the OneForAll URC-8820/10820, and the RCAP05B.
The RCAP05B is easily available at BestBuy for $20; the OneForAlls are avaibable on-line.
If any button isn't mapped the way you want or you'd like access to discrete button codes like discrete power On or particular inputs, we can tell you how to program those codes individually to buttons.

Is this thread still live?? Just wondered as I've recently purchased a SR4300 and have a OneForAll remote (URC7781) Have got the 2 codes above whic as you know only partially work. I'm interested to know how you could program the individual functions though?? I thought you needed the original remote to 'learn' the functions. Any help would be good...please?????? Trying to get into the setup menu on the marantz but cant get pas the 1st level menu. It's stuck on '1.Input' and the direction buttons and ok button not registering at all!

You can assign EFCs to various buttons to get the functionality you want. Use Setup code Audio 1289. I've tried to copy the procedure to assign EFCs from the manual (available at the UK www.oneforall.com site, under support). 1 Press and hold down MAGIC for about 3 sec. and... will appear on the screen. 2 Press ARROW Right... will appear on the screen. 3 Press ENTER twice...will appear on the screen. 4 Press ARROW Right...will appear on the screen. 5 Press ENTER...will appear on the screen. Select select the Audio mode. 6 Press the MAGIC key once. 7 Enter the 5-digit function code from the table below 8 The screen will change to… The mode in which the function will be assigned is Audio so leave the device mode unchanged. Press the key to which the function will be assigned. The LED underneath the POWER key will light up twice and you will return to KM SOURCE to program a next function. To return to user mode press and hold LIGHT (ESC). Key Magic can be assigned to any key EXCEPT the ARROW LEFT / RIGHT, ENTER, LIGHT (ESC) keys and the MAGIC key. It’s not possible to program Key Magic functions in the Home Theatre Mode. However, if a key has been programmed in the original device mode with Key Magic then this function will be carried over to the Home Theatre Mode. Hi Hi, I know this thread has been off for a while but I just got a used SR4200 without remote and would really appreciate some feedback about new options for this devise. Would any Audio 1289 code compatible remote work?? The main reason I need the remote (apart from the obvious volume, on off, etc) is to change bass and treble and most importantly, the volume of each individual channel (which cannot be done without the remote. I am hoping I can get a "common" brand remote that could be found in Mexico City for a reasonable price. Here we have radio Shack and Best Buy but their staff doesn't have a clue about remote controllers and none of them know whether their Universal models would work with a 5.1. These are my options at Best Buy and Radio Shack: [Link: bestbuy.com.mx][Link: radioshack.com.mx]All advise appreciated. Regards Anton

I don't see a remote in those two links that I'm confident would operate your Marantz. The RCA RCRP05B is the obvious choice, but I don't see it in the links.
The 1289 setup code will control the basic features of the receiver, but not all. You have to program the remote (using a procedure similar to above), and only remotes made by Universal Electronics will work. Do any cable companies there use Atlas remotes? Atlas 1056 or 1055 have setup code 1289 and can be manually programmed.

Many thanks 3FG.
A friend lent me an old RCA RCR860 and after reading the instructions I couldn't find a way to program individual functions. Do you know if this is possible with this remote?.

I don't know , but I strongly doubt that you can individually program the buttons. Note that RCA doesn't really make anything anymore, and is just a brand, adn so two remotes with similar names may be made by different manufacturers.

I bought a urc-8820 and want to follow the above guide, but have not yet figured out the magic button yet. I have the codes from Marantz for all SR's AV's -- there was no specific section on the SR4200 though.
Are the SR4200 codes the same as SR5006 - SR5009?
How is AMP and MENU mapped to the urc-8820?
How do you program amp, menu, exit menu into the urc-8820?
In a month a well marked remote from China will arrive, but for now, I'd like to be able to test out my old-but-new-to-me SR4200.
Thanks,
John

If the urc-8820 you bought is black, its the wrong model of remote. That's newer remote with same model #, and its not worth a damn. The Original urc-8820 is mostly silver, with black keys.

Mine is black from cox cable with model number urc-8820-moto. it will turn my SR4200 on/off. Any chance of getting it to do the amp and menu and menu exit functions? There do not seem to be any silver with black keys urc-8820 for sale on ebay, so is buying a RC5300SR replacement from China the best way to get control and set up an old Marantz SR4200 receiver? Thanks, John Griessen

If you want access to commands listed in this thread by 3FG, you will need a UEI remote with audio 1289 on board, I can assure you this remote has that code and accepts the 5 digit efc's(advanced codes) listed in this thread: [Link: ebay.com]Its only 5 device remote though.
