My brother-in-law has a birthday coming up, and one idea I had was to get him a new remote. He currently has the Sony RM-AV2100 and I'm wondering what would be a good upgrade from that. He is a bit of an AV guru, so I know he would rather not upgrade than get a new crappy one. As I have little knowledge in this area, I'm hoping for someone to lend his expertise.

So far, I've been unable to find any 'direct' remote upgrades as it appears Sony has gotten out of the universal remote business. However, Logitech seems to have taken over this market, and right now I'm leaning toward either the Logitech Harmony 900, 1100 or ONE. Though the 1100, at least on the surface, seems like a more direct upgrade from the Sony, it is also substantially more expensive (heck, my brother-in-law is great, but not THAT great). If the 900 or the ONE would be quality remotes that could handle the workload of the Sony he has now, I'll probably go in that direction.

His devices include a TV, cable/satellite box, audio receiver and PS3 (I saw some of these have a PS3 adapter).

Any advice?  Many thanks!

My advice, based on my own personality, is pick some other gift. Remotes vary significantly, and there is little chance that anyone here could guess what he actually wants. There's way more variation in remotes than in, say, laptop computers.
