I am trying to set up my living room and bedroom systems with one remote to control each room. I have tried the universal remotes that come with each component to no avail. I would like each room on a remote and have basic functions set up such as watch a movie, watch TV, watch internet movie (with laptop connected).

Living room has:
* Sharp Aquos LC TV
* AT&T U-verse with Motorola VIP 1216 box
* BOSE home theater in a box 321 Series II

Bedroom has:
* Sanyo DP 26648 LC TV
* AT&T U-verse with Motorola VIP 1200 box
* Magnavox ZV427MG9A Digital Video Disk Recorder & VCR
* An item that would be nice to add but isn't required is a Altec Lansing in Motion im 413 speaker for my MP3 Player, it does have a basic remote

Any assistance is appreciated!
Melissa

I assume that you want one remote dedicated for the LR and another for the BR. Here's a low cost way to proceed.

Get RCA RCRP05B remotes from Best Buy ($20 each) [or OneForAll URC-8820N via the internet].

You didn't mention the model number of the Sharp, but the setup code should be either-----TV 0818 or TV 1089 (different IR protocols).
Bose 321----Audio 1229 or the very similar 1629
Uverse-------Cable 0858

Sanyo--------TV 0154 (or similar 0847 and 1142)
Uverse------- Cable 0858
Magnavox----Video 0675

Probably the Altec Lansing stuff will have to be learned into the remote.

The cable boxes and Bose don't have discrete on/off commands, so you'll probably need to turn those on or off via toggle. Then you can have separate buttons to run macros to setup the inputs. I suspect that both TVs will have discrete commands for inputs, so that you can select a particluar input without having to scroll through a menu of input choices, but I can't be sure. If a menu approach is required, then it is likely possible to make a macro that does the necessary keystrokes.

More expensive remotes offer customizable LCD screens, but won't provide any more control over your components, and sometimes less. With LCD screens,you can have a function labeled "watch DVD". With the remotes recommended here, you'll have to remember that e.g. yellow triangle means "watch DVD".
