hi

I need a remote to carry over all functions of my basic stereo/home theater components (which is no big deal, I know), but that can also take over the functions of my Firefly remote (RF) that controls my HTPC.

Also, I need to be able to program a sequence of buttons as one button. There's a hack for region-free play of my DVD player that I want to be able to make a one-button process.

Plus I'd like a mute button for my son :)

Ok, please advise. Cheap price would be great. I don't need fancy-schmancy stuff besides the above.

Thanks.

The URC RF20 is RF, but it will not control the RF of your Firefly. Does your HTPC also accept IR commands?

Bummer, why can't it take over the functions of the Firefly?

No, my HTPC cannot, as far as I know, receive IR.

You cannot learn RF from one remote to another.

So is there no universal remote that I can buy that would allow me to also control the HTPC?

If I bought a separate USB receiver for RF coming from the URC could I do it?

You could definitely get an IR port for your PC and control it that way.

I have a PC in my closet and control it using a URB IR port and an RF remote/base station. This is useful if you want to control the functions of Windows media center or something designed to work with the IR controls. However, it can't easily be used to surf the web or control other things on the PC as the commands that can be accepted via the IR port are limited.

I only use Firefly to control Zoom Player and WinDVD, though with each of these I have quite a few complicated keyboard shortcuts programmed.

I also use it to start and shut down these programs and to shut down the whole HTPC. That's it.

Can you point me to one of these IR ports for the HTPC.

I just bought one of these which came with the IR port. Then I stuck the remote in a closet.

Can I use it with Event Ghost to run macros on the PC or is it more limited?

I have not tried it but it seems to be supported.
