Would appreciate hearing views from the pros about the best setup for playing MP3 files and controlling the player from the same room, or from a different room.

Here's my current setup and its limitations. I have a Philips Streamium media server, which is connected by ethernet cable to a PC. Also have a wireless network, but it is too hard to stream wirelessly, thus the ethernet connection. Anyhow, the Streamium can play all the mp3s on my harddrive (you can load the entire collection, or create playlists. If you are sitting in the same room as the streamium, you have to turn the TV on to select individual songs using the remote (the little LCD screen is too small to read from across the room).

If I am in a different room, I can turn everything on and get the streamium to start playing the first song. From there, I can go the next song or the previous song, but I am controlling it blindly. I cannot choose a particular song.

The ideal setup would be a remote control and an MP3 media server that would allow me to scoll through the mp3 collection and select individual songs to play. I think that means a 2-way remote. I would welcome suggestions about the best way to implement this solution.

I should add that I just picked up a URC MX-980 remote, but I would consider going in a different direction if that proves to be the best course.

Thanks for any guidance!

Have you contacted Philips to see what they recomend? Maybe the Prontos will work.
We have two ends with a common link,
With one we sit, with one we think;
Success depends on what we use, Heads we win, tails we lose.

If you like iTunes, you could easily add all of your MP3's to it, buy an iPod Touch (they're pretty cheap), and download the "Remote" APP from the iTunes store. It's a free APP and it allows you to surf your entire iTunes library on the iPod touch over a Wi-fi connection. It works really well and it's pretty fast when it comes to response time.
