The only thing I have to compare these to is my old MX-700. I like the harder gem type buttons, but doesn't always have to have that. A good tactile response is what I need. Nothing cushy soft or anything. Seeing if anyone knows from handling experiecne the button characteristics between the three? Would be so much easier if I can drop into a store and see them for myself, specially when possibly spending $500.

Not gem buttons. You can see the R50 in any big blue box store. The MX450 buttons are essentially the same as the R50, and if you go to URC's dealer locator on the Pro side you can find someone with a MX880. Fairly similar to the MX450, different shaped buttons...

If you have an MX-700 now, you would probably want to move up to a better remote than backward to a lower-end model.

The MX-880 is a great remote! If you were happy with your MX-700, I'm sure you will enjoy the MX-880. Plus, it's at your price point.
