I've been using two Harmony 890 units on my rig. They work okay. I basically like them (though not everything about them). They seem to have better ergonomics than most of the more sophisticated remotes I've seen. Just my preference maybe.
After having gotten into this I realize things will work so much better for me if I can set it up so I can control my devices from two, three, or even as many as four different remotes through RF. To be clear, I want to control multiple devices from multiple remotes, through RF, along with some direct IR. This is based on the fact that most of my gear is in one centrally located cabinet, with screens and hi-fi systems located in a few different places in my house.
My components are pretty basic: receivers, blu-ray, video switcher, 2 x TiVo units, an old VCR, etc. Nothing too exotic, but a couple of things that will require learning some obscure codes. Probably a total of up to 8 or 10 devices max.
I am a Mac person with no desire to try running Windows on my Mac (though if I HAVE to I will make it happen). Not interested in any sort of deep programming, though again, on a limited basis I will do it if I have to.
I will list some of my most top of mind wants and desires here and hope that a few of you can make some useful recommendations.
1. I prefer tactile buttons to touch screens, at least for all the major functions, numeric keypad, etc.
2. Remote must fit in one hand and be usable with only that hand, at least for basic/major functions.
3. Remotes must have learning capability.
4. Remotes must have RF and IR.
5. RF receiver(s) must be able to receive and act on signals from multiple hand-held remotes and distribute signals to appropriate devices.
6. Good and relatively simple UI for programming. MUCH prefer Mac or Internet based programming. My second choice would be to do the programming right on the remote -- last choice would be Windows or anything PC.
Things I would like:
7. I like the Harmony docking/recharging concept a lot. Would hate to lose that.
8. I like that the Harmony lights when I pick it up.
9. The harmony seems to have a very strong IR emitter, which I find helpful.
10. Scalable - moving into a bigger house soon. Things will get more complicated then.
Finally, I can't stress the ergonomics of the remote enough. Must be wife friendly to use/hold/operate. It seems Harmony has about nailed this with their new line, but alas no RF networking.
If I find the right solution I hope to purchase in the 4th quarter. I sure would appreciate some input.

David, from the description you are providing you have a cople of options. Once option that comes to my mind is the new Nevo C3. A very good looking remote and it touches on all of your points. I will be getting some in later today (they just came to market) and I will provide a more educated opinion based on my interaction. However, after taking training I can see that it sounds like a great option for you.

Vincent, thanks for your post. I did some (very) quick looking and the one killer for the C3 may be that I can't use multiple remotes with one RF receiver -- at least that's how some of the on-line chatter reads. That's a complete non-starter for me if it's true.
If I can't find anything that meets my criteria I may have to gag and go ahead and pick up some H890 Pro's off eBay. Hate to buy in to old, and less than robust technology, but... Are my requests really so far afield that nobody makes a high quality product that will do it?

What about Control 4? At face value it looks like it will do a lot of what I want...and a lot more I don't really care about (yet).

FWIW
I have two pronto TSU7000 and an RFX6000 RF receiver. While I don't normally use both 7000's (one is a backup), both will transmit to the RF receiver so I can use either one to control my system.
(However, the TSU7000 does not meet many of your other specifications - it has a touch screen, programmed under Windows, etc.)

It gives you all you're asking for except you'll have that nasty Windows emulator on your MAC. Works flawlessly on my MacBook Pro.
