Hey everyone - great thread going on here! I'd like to throw the RedEye Remote into the ring and see what you guys think.
With the RedEye system you can use your iPhone or iPod touch to control your TV, stereo, cable box, DVD player, and many other devices that receive standard (infrared) signals. In other words, no more hunting through your sofa cushions for all those different remotes – all the control you need is right in your pocket.
We just launched our Facebook page here: [Link: tinyurl.com]. We're gearing up for our big launch later this Fall and we'd love to hear your feedback.
Keep the convo going!

My wife left with her iphone about an hour ago and now we dont have a remote. When we got redeye i said "hey let us rid ourselves of all these unwanted remotes now that we have the redeye remote" and i threw them all away.
So now i am stuck! How do i watch TV while shes gone? I looked thru the help manual and i could not find anything that addresses this situation.
Please Help!

Oh no, that's no good!
Do you have an iPod Touch? You could easily download the free software and your iPod would recognize all your settings via the hardware unit.

39, the same thing just happened to me, wifes phone was dead, so she took mine to go run some errands, now I don't have a way to change chennels. What do I do now? Why would I have an iPod Touch if I have an iPhone? Also, my wife is always complaining about not being able to work the equipment while I am at work, and she has a KRAZR she loves, so no iPhone for her.

I see that you're both custom installers, so it's understandable where you'd be used to having a built in system to control your equipment. This is where the RedEye differs, as it is a personal remote, made for quick and easy set-up with customized interfaces, features, hand gestures and finger swipes without the additional plastic.
Being that the product hasn't officially launched yet, you must be part of the beta program, though we haven't seen this issue raised on our beta forums and the e-mails don't match up with our beta list. May I ask where you got your RedEye's from?

My only comment is that given that your web page is constructed with skinny gray text on a black background I hope your target audience is 20-somethings because my 54-year-old eyes can't read a word. Good luck.

dabrams, you're too old to have an iPhone, that's why the site isn't geared for your old eyes.
Kevin, you still haven't answered 39 and my problems, what are we supposed to do when the iPhone is unavailable?

The RedEye is a personal remote which is intended for a personal viewing experience. Additional family members can use their own iPhones/iPods or get one if they do not have one (Apple sells refurbs at $139). Some of our beta testers have purchased an iPod specifically for the living room, or to have for the babysitter and kids while they go out for the night. You could also keep the original device remotes if you're iPhone availability is unreliable to use as backup. If battery life is a concern, the RedEye hardware unit also operates as a docking station.

So, what you are saying is that it is not a replacement for a good old fashioned universal remote.
Also, I've noticed that it's a PITA to turn down the volume on my equipment while I am on the phone. Is there going to be an easier way to do this, or should I keep another remote handy to do that? That's what I have to do now.

You can turn down the volume before, during and after calls.
If you are a beta tester, I would suggest utilizing the beta forums to speak with other users and/or emailing support. Thanks your input, we look forward to helping you out with future inquiries.
The RedEye is a universal remote by the fact that your iPhone/iPod is universal; it does many things within one device. It is made for the iPhone/iPod, so it would be intended for families or individuals who already own or are considering to purchase these products. It was designed to evolve with the iPhone/iPod upgrades and free RedEye software updates. It is not a large piece of plastic that has every hard button on display; it only features the buttons, favorites and activities you program to it. It operates based on your customizations, finger swipes or hand gestures.
Where the RedEye has an advantage over the old fashioned universal remote is its customization, personal features, activity based commands, ease of use, software/hardware integration, fast responsive customer service and a code database that covers over 98% of devices.
Thanks again for your input, we look forward to your participation on the forums.

I came up with a work around. When my wife is going to head out we forward her mobile number to my phone and my mobile number to her phone. That way we can keep the iphone at home.

Stamp, what a great idea. I can't believe I didn't think about doing that, thanks.

That is a great idea. Hope everything is working out well!
Thought I'd check in and let you know that we're now giving away a free RedEye + iPod Touch once we reach 1,000 Fans... [Link: tinyurl.com]
The RedEye is modular and having an extra iPod Touch could help with having a "living room" designated iPod, so the more the merrier!

I am interested in this product for sure. There are some rooms in a house where my clients do not use often (like a billiard room, gym :), etc). This would be a cool application to have in place of a remote system if you need intermittent control. I probably have a market for this with some clients. Also, it is good for teenage kids bedrooms. Yeah, I think I may be on board with this...
