I am having remote envy looking at the NTDesigns ad on Remote Central for a Crestron Touchscreen remote.

Frankly at an internet price of $2500 (cough, cough) they are well out of range of what I would ever pay....

But they look so enticing, I am just curious if anyone out there has this fantasy device and loves it.

You can't really buy Crestron online, and even if you do, you'll pay premium to get it programmed. Also, no support from Crestron unless bought from an authorized dealer.

All that being said, it is well worth the money.

The beauty of Crestron is usually not in the remote - it's in the processor and underlying equpment (which I doubt your going to see rebadging).

The programming cababilities and the control factors are almost impossible to mimic with other companies remote lines. That alone is what you pay for and not the design of the touchpanels and handhelds.

True enough Vincent, but he did specifically ask about the touchscreen remotes, and mentioned it's exceedingly high cost. So regardless of a complete Crestron system's abilities, the remotes themselves are ridiculiously priced, especially when compared to the original manfacturers msrp.

Thanks Stamp, I wasn't sure. Although the layout had me thinking RTI

For the record, I was talking about this one:

I think that $2500 is MSRP. Like you said you have to add in the control systems. Lets just say there is a cheap one at $500 (probably NOT). $3000 is way out there for me. And then there is the programming. Who buys this stuff? How many remotes does Jay-Z need to support these prices?

They are. If you ever used one it would become easier to justify the Jay-Z price tag.

I just finished up an install this evening that had two of these TPS6X touchpanels. (well almost finished)   We are just waiting on the new engraved bezels from crestron.  should be here this week.

I really like these remotes, with one exception.  The base uses a cable that has a 10 pin modular jack on the end.  I needed to cut the end off to make a small hole for the cable to go through, but ended up having to make the hole larger since I couldnt find a 10 pin modular connector, and wouldnt have the proper crimper even if I did find it.

I had a similar issue with TPS-4000's a while back. But the TPS-6X comes with a decora doo-dad (IMCW) that has the 10 pin connector built in to the face and lan/cresnet/video/power built into the back.

The last one i installed had white or black sticky front for the decora unit so you could try and match your wall plates. I dont remember that with the others i have installed but sometimes i dont bother reading the manual until i cant get something to work. Probably why it takes me so long to get things done :).

yep, we used those, but since it is a 7 million dollar boat and everything had to match or be hidden, we hid it inside the cabinet and drilled a hole through the wall and used a grommet. (they used Vimar Eikon style wall plates)

(top one)

in one of the rooms, the installer cut the plug off before I could warn him.  I ended up solder splicing it back together.  (luckly he left me some wire to work with)

next time we use these panels I will be ready though,  i will be ordering a bag of 10 pin RJ45s and a crimper for them.
