My digital tv receives OTA signals. The problem is, the tv will channel block the OLD analog channels, but using the remote, you have to enter 28 then a dash and then 1 in order to get the new digital channel. Very annoying. In other words the TV does not actually remove the old analog channel. The remote still FORCES you to enter the NEW digital channel. If you enter say 28 it brings you to the old analog channel. Nice and snowy. Then you have to use the channel up button. Seems minor but is very annoying.

I want a Universal Remote that will let me program the number buttons. So if you enter 28 it actually then goes to 28-1. The new digital channel.

Any ideas?

That isn't going to happen very easily. What you want to do can be accomplished by a macro, but nto very easy when entering the channels directly. You can use a URC or such and creat buttons with the channel number, name, or icon that will take you directly to that channel at a single button press.

The problem you are having is that channle 28 is gone. The channel numbers are irrelivant today. They used to represent where the station was lined up on the UHF/VHF frequency. Now, with digital transmissions, they are all over the place. Your TV puts them in the order the signal is telling it that it should be on.

Another issue you have is with the dash you have to enter. By going digital, the FCC freed up alot of bandwith for other things like cell phones, and in turn enabled the TV sattions to be able to broadcast more shows at once using their alotted bandwith. So, by entering 28-1, you are getting the main signal for your channel 28. Entering 28-2 will probably get you weather/news run on a loop from channel 28. 28-3 might get you reruns, etc. So you don't just have one channel 28 anymore, I've seen up to 5 channels on one signal, all better quality picture than the old analog one.

I hoped that helped you out some.

Not possible.

What is possible... you can get a remote that allows you to make preset macro's. These are commonly referred to as "favorites".

Your macro for 28 would look like:

2
8
-
1
Enter (optional)

Heres an example of a hand held remote with favorite channels:

Thanks, anyhomeneeds.

What would be great is an URC that would let you macro ALL number keys or a squence of keys. Like I mentioned. If you press the sequence 2 then 8, it brings you to 28-1. THEN I could scroll up to 28-2. 28-3 and 28-4 etc.

The DASH is in a weird place on the TV remote. Maybe there is a URC that has a better way of entering the DASH?

It is possible, it would just take a lot of programming, at a big cost to you, just to save from having to enter in a couple of digits.

Think of it in terms of a phone call. You used to only have to dial 7 numbers to call someone down the street, now most everywhere you have to dial 9 digits. Same thing with television.
