Hello

Complete newbie and want to apologize in advance for all the stupid questions.

I have the following hardware listed below.

My pet peeve is when a channel is not on HD, my toshiba has 2 grey bars on the side (4/3 format), I have to access the Toshiba remote to stretch the screen to 16/9. I mostly use the pvr remote, but shen I want to change the volume, it is a two button process 1. to change to receiver mode. 2 volume. And when I want to change channels I have to reverse the what I have done.

On top of this, my wife has absolutely no idea how to turn everything on, If I'm not home I constantly get calls.

Thinking of getting the Harmony 880, from what I have read, it seem to be good.

My question is will it do all the above? Is there another easier to use remote that will do the same?

Toshiba 52hx85 DLP
Harmon Kardon Receiver
Toshiba DVD
Rogers PVR

Yes it will. A URC (MX-850 or similar) will also be a good choice, just a bit harder to porgram.

Both remotes support macros and full learning.

Any Harmony would be a good choice...even a 550 or 670 if you want something cheaper.

Being Activity based and having a "Help" button makes them very easy to use for non-technical people.

i've heard alot of bad things about the 880 in particular. but the harmony series are stylish and easy to use. on the better end the MX series is also popular. I own the Nevo SL and love it-its a combo of touchscreen and hard buttons-very easy to program and much more customizable than the previously mentioned models. bit of a hefty price tag though.
