I have an MX-500 that will have to be pried from my cold, dead fingers. However, the fact that it can't interface to a PC means that using discrete codes is a royal pain. When I bought the MX-500 about four years ago, I took the plunge and went the whole JP1 route with a JP1 remote and cable. It worked and life was good.
Well, now I need to learn some new discretes and I have forgotten all JP1 secrets! And I don't want to go back to JP1 boot camp! It's so much to learn to accomplish such a small task.
So, what I'd like to know is: can't we just use a USB IR emitter and some software to teach our learning remotes the few discrete commands that don't exist in the OE remotes for our devices? If yes, what are people using out there to follow this approach?
