Excuse my ignorance on terminology.
I currently have a MSC-400 which controls a number of my A/V components in the same cabinet. In addition, I have a serial connection that runs from the MSC-400 to a remote closet where my Lutron lighting control resides. I use my remote to control the lighting over this connection.
In the closet I also have my home automation controller (Elk M1) which I wish to connect to my MSC-400 via the serial connection.
I am maxed out on my serial outputs so I would like to use the existing serial cable that is connected to my lighting system to control both the lighting and home automation.
Is there a router type piece of equipment that I can use to distribute the serial commands to the two different devices? In a perfect world, I would program the MSC-400 to send a string to the device which would then trigger the device to send a string out a specific port to the device of my choosing.
I only need 1 way signals.
Appreciate any help here.
Thanks.
John

I think it would be easier to use another MSC-400 than to buy one of those and deal with the added programming complexity. You can find a used MSC for a lot less money, also.

You might find this Programmable Device Server with 4 RS-232 ports useful. [Link: icpdas-usa.com]
