I'm new to remote central and have only ever used the harmony system. I'm now trying to figure out how to control all my devices via IP using the Axium Design Portal software. I have a DirecTV HR34-700 and the documentation shows IP commands of this nature:

[Link: 192.168.1.7]

This command works when used via a web browser, but the Axium program requires either ASCII or HEX input to create a button that does the same. My main question is how do I get the above command in ASCII or HEX format? Is this even possible or are there other codes that I need to find?

If that software is looking for commands entered in either ASCII or Hex formats, it’s expecting serial (RS-232) control codes. Not IP. Big difference. You should contact whoever makes Axium Design Portal for support and ask them specifically if and how they support IP control.

Hi , I can help you with the Axium control.. do you have a copy of the protocol document , the link you put up seems to go now where.

HTTP is actually TCP. The command "http://192.168.0.144/remoteAction=1" in a webbrowser produces the following TCP packet:

"GET /remoteAction=1 HTTP/1.1\r\n\r\n" which is sent to 192.168.0.144 port 80.

In Axium create a new IP device , and command, with the command set to ascii type it in e.g. GET/remote/processKey?Key=guide&hold=keyPress

gopronto,

Thanks for the help. I tried what you described and it did not work. I tried with a space after GET and with no space since it appeared to be both ways above.

The protocol document is found here:

[Link: satinstalltraining.com]

The command set is found on page 22. I'm not sure if it matters but axium changes the command to HEX once you apply it.

Interested to know what you think.....thanks again!

OK, I played around and perseverance is your friend. The command set that Axium needs for a DirecTV HR34 is as follows:

GET 192.168.1.7:8080/remote/processKey?key=guide HTTP/1.1\r\n\r\n

The IP and the port still need to be put into the Ethernet device you create as well. I dont know why....I just know it works this way and no other.

So, the problem I am working on now is that the Axium android app will not fire off commands fast enough. It seems like it will only take one command and then nothing for awhile. So, If I hit the down button it will go down and then not take another command unless you wait for awhile. I've tried several DirecTV wifi IP command apps and they can take commands much faster. I've been sniffing the packets but cant find whatever it is they are doing to allow them to do so over the Axium app. As I'm not very familiar with the axium app it could be something I'm overlooking there.

Anybody have any thoughts?

So, the good folks at Ikon AVS have sorted me out. Thanks Mark!

After hooking me up with the latest beta of the Axium android app my remote is seriously working well. I think that the Axium platform is not only catching up but going to be taking the world by storm based on its flexibility and robust feature set. I have seen nothing else like it.

I'm hoping to help add to its command DB in the future as well. I've already sorted out and got XBMC working using JSON-RPC API/v6 which is compatible with the latest Gothan release.
