Hello, I have a grandview motorized in-ceiling screen that I am attempting to control via RS232. I have an RJ11 jack wired up like this.

RJ11
1-OW
2-Orange
3-Gw
4-Blue
5-Bw
6-Green

I am attempting to control this via Control4 with an HC800 (I think Control4 only uses pins 2,3, & 5 on their controllers for RS232) and am not sure which pins on the RJ11 are needed. I do not know which ones are t/r and which one is a return/ground/earth whatever you like to call it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I found this manual [Link: grandviewscreens.com.au] but can not seem to make heads or tail of it.Thanks

That diagram indicates you would connect the RS-232 TX to pin 5 and the GND to pin 6 of the RJ-11, assuming that the pins on the Phoenix connector are numbered the same as those on an RJ-11.

Pins 1-4 of the RJ-11 / Phoenix connector (do you have that piece?) look like they are contact closure inputs for up/stop/down so you should be able to short those together (short 1-3 each individually with Pin 4 Common (aka Ground)) and figure out which end of the RJ-11 is which.

Got it working.

Wire Pins 1 & 2 from the RJ-11 to pins 3 & 5 on the DB9 plug (RS232) on the Control4 Controller:

RJ-11 Pin-Outs : DB9 Pin Outs
1 TO 3

2 TO 5
