Hi,

can someone advise what's the cheapest way to implement an IR to IP control system?

Thanks!

What is it you are trying to do when you say IR to IP.

One obvious solution is a small PC or microcontroller that receives IR and puts out whatever you need as IP.

I know of no General solution. IR protocols juat send numbers as binary patterns, but the protocols are not standardized.

Well, I've thought about a small PC (maybe an old Apple TV), but that would be kinda overkill.

What are you trying to do?

Yes, the best thing is to explain the issue...

My Marantz AV7005 pre-pro has discrete IR codes for decoding HDMI audio by itself or for sending it to the TV.

The problem is that Logitech has inserted those codes into the Harmony database and they don't work on my Harmony One remote. Have raised the problem over to their customer support, but they answered that the codes are correctly inserted.

Incidently, the IP control codes work correctly using the telnet protocol. So this looks like one route to work around the problem.

So, a small inexpensive and little power draw appliance would come handy here. If there's actually one.

So, no clues for this?

Have you posted on the RemoteCentral "Harmony Remote" forum? I'm assuming there is one.

I have. No answers there.

So, no easy way to do IR to IP control?

Could always use a Raspberry Pi to develop it, in case there's nothing off-the-shelf...

My first answer is dump the Harmony junk and use a URC or RTI solution.

My second answer is that the Marantz also supports RS-232 control. I have not looked at the protocol to see if the functions you want are there or not but most likely they are. Xantech makes a module, IRS232A, that will take IR signals in and then send out the serial command that you associate with each of the different IR commands.

I haven't seen a module that will do this with IP commands yet but Xantech is who I would contact to find out if there is one available.

IRTrans with database option is exactly what you want...
