I realize this is not going to be an easy solution, but someone has to know the pinouts, protocol and commands used to control the Bose SA-2 and SA-3 amps. I'm looking for someone that had a controller/converter already designed for rs232 communication or a point in the right direction to start making one. I love these amps and want to start using them to drive Bose speakers but need 232 for turn on/off and volume control...

Nope. If that was the case then I wouldn't need 232. I'm looking to use the amps with a custom system that's only going to employ 251 or 51 speakers with a sa-2 or sa-3 amp driving them.

K, just checking. good luck. i've got a pile of those amps laying around that I've pulled off boats. It would be nice to be able to put them to some good use.

Wish I had any idea where to even start - like what protocol these amps curently use so I can start researching a converter...

I wouldn't even bother, Bose is very tight lipped about its protocols. I have been asking for these codes for years.
My suggestion would be to use only the sa-3 amplifier and set the dip switches to auto sensing. send a variable audio signal into the amplier (bose is very sensitive, so you will want to make sure your audio source is absolutely null when off, or you will have constant hum)
If anyone can tell you otherwise, I would appreciate a PM with any information on this topic... Thanks
