I started, about ten months ago, a home project for controlling audio/video devices using IR and Serial commands plus IP communication for computer applications.

What I ended-up with is a (cost effective) system that allows control of IR and Serial devices (using the Global Cache devices) and computer applications through IP. I can use as a remote control any web-enabled (through WiFi) mobile device plus tablet plus netbook or laptop.

If you are interested in a description of the problematic situation that lead to remotex4's creation, a description of its interface, design and architecture plus a "live" demo, you can visit

Your comments are most welcome.

Thank you. Especially as Web/Graphics design is not my forte :-)

One of the good things about remoteX4's design is that once you define Zones, Devices, Macros and Activities the three different interfaces (mobile narrow, mobile wide and tablet) come up for free. And for good or bad the buttons, labels, layout and functionality are consistent amongst all interfaces.

In addition, if at any time one more interface types are created (simple PHP files really) they will render all existing activities as expected.
