I have a customer that is about 3 months will be using 7 apple TV's, 5 Cable Boxes, couple DVD's, couple Integra Receivers. Due to construction limitations, the appleTV's will be placed by the TV's and not in a central location. I can add a Network switch and a WIFI2IP from Global Cache to each AppleTV, but this seems overkill. I already have network lines to each AppleTV location, so IP control would help me immensely. I do not have lines in place for IR control. the previous homeowner had 1 RG6 and 1 CAT5 run to every TV location. He is a signature home customer, so all of his recorded shows show up on any of his TV's through Time Warner. This means an HD Video Distribution for strictly AppleTV is going to be pretty much usesless.

This customer has a working relationship with Apple, so he is not going to change to anything other than the appletv's, and iPad/iPod touch for control. Plus he likes airplay, etc. I am just lucky we are able to switch him from a receiver and speaker selectors to a Sonos System, which he onlys uses for iTunes.

Has anyone figured out the IP commands for the AppleTV's yet? If so are the commands the same for v1 and v2?

Mike

I suggest you join apple's developer network (free) and ask over there. Hope this helps!

If he's using Apple TV Gen2, Airplay and iPad/iPodTouch/iPhone Control, why do you need any IP commands for the Apple TV? Or IR? As long as you have the Apple TVs connected to the home's network (wired or wirelessly) he'll automatically have all of the Apple TV control he needs through Airplay and the Remote App on his i-Devices. Although, I'm not sure if seven Apple TVs puts him over some sort of Apple limit.
