I am trying to get a VPL-VW90ES projector to respond to rs232 commands and am not having any luck.

I am using an RTI ZRP-6 on RS232 port 1. I am using RTI's RJ45 to RS-232 adapter, the cable is a cat 6 terminated in T568A and has tested fine. Is that the right way to terminate for 232??

I can calculate the codes... for example Power on is A9 01 02 00 00 03 03 9A
off A9 01 02 00 00 00 03 9A
HDMI 1 A9 00 01 00 00 04 05 9A
etc etc.

Baud is 38400, parity is even, Data bits 8, stop bits 1, and the HEX button is down. I have tried various delays between characters 0 to 6 miliseconds to no avail.

Any advice?????

Thanks
James

Sorry for reposting the same issue, but I need help soon and the other post isn't about RTI....

Figured it out... RTI and sony transmit on different pins. Needed a null modem cable between them...

Onefastchevy,

Glad you figured it out. Many applications need null modem cables - I used RS-232 a bunch with Panasonic commercial plasmas that required that.

Instead of buying null modems, which granted were cheap, and having another device in the line of connections, I took to reversing the pins on the DB-9 connector when I connected them through an RJ-45<->DB-9 connector. You can still use standard RJ-45 punchdown.

They have male and female DB-9 products. Prices are much lower when you register as a reseller.

BTW, TIA568A vs. TIA568B are electrically the same; it's just whether orange is pins 1/2 (B) or 3/6 (A). A is for homes and B is for offices, technically.
