I have a Barnstead - Thermolyne PMC 730 digital stirrer hotplate with RS-232 and IR control inputs. I am looking for information regarding the control protocols used in each.
The product manual rear-panel illustration shows an 4 conductor RJ-11 connector called the I-O port. The manual specifies this port is for use with another device designed to control the unit more precisely via RS-232. The manual indicates the unit is controllable by an handheld infrared control that would have come packaged with the unit. The unit was used when purchased and no remote was provided. The manufacturer is unwilling to provide any details, but, offered to sell the RS-232 control device for a king's ransom, and I have yet to find either the hard-wired controller or the IR remote for sale I can afford elsewhere. I have made some web searches looking for more information (one directed me to this forum).
I can write my own software to control its operation via RS-232 so that is no problem, if only the command structure is located. This manufacturer has several other various products featuring these external control methods which leads me to suspect they would share the same command control protocol. I have found chemical process operation control software with support for other makers equipment, which is odd considering the many users who insist on their products.
I would deeply appreciate any suggestions on where to look including any information or ideas on the subject.
