I want to use an iPad or iPod Touch to control all my components. i.e I have Aps to control my Denon, Samsung, and Lutron lighting, but I would like one ap that would "aggregate" these functions. Something like a Harmony Remote would do. I know there are third party hardware that woud do this such as Control4, but I think this is purely a software solution. Anything exist?

There is this:

http://www.iruleathome.com/

It uses hardware like a Global Cache GC-100 to provide the IR and Serial control.

I haven't tried it yet - been meaning to - just too busy.

Thank you for the response. I did now take a look at irule. There are also several others out there like mastercontrol that I have now found. As a novice, someone out there must have created a "Harmony" like ease of implementation. Meaning irule and the others I found are very sophisticated, will do everything you need, I just don;t have the hours needed to implement. It would seem tht there should be an AP to download, enter in your IP controlled components and your done. ANy othre ideas out there? Thank you.

Check Roomie. Pretty straight forward.

Although not as simple to setup, CommandFusion does offer control such as you require, with a hell of a lot of flexibility.

I chose CommadFusion after being a Pronto PRO user/developer for many years. I played with iRule for a while, but the Fact that commandfusion integerated Javascript with their system on the iPad was the clincher for me.

The biggest issue with a sophisticated two-way control system like Commandfusion or the prontoi PRO (using it beyond just IR, but rather for IP and Serial two way control) is the other side.

You generally have little say over how the other side, the device you are controlling, operates and how well the protocol being used is documented.
