There's an article on CE Pro today about our finished 2G solution.

[Link: cepro.com]

The 2G HD over IP devices for deliverying HDMI over IP are all about the needs and suggestions of the custom installer.

A few of the key custom installer oriented features in the 2G design are:

1) RS232 control layer - Using a single RS232 cable connection from a control system you can direct RS232 commands to any selected device on the HDMI over IP network. For example, turn ON/OFF screens or adjust settings on the AVR in each room. We are also supporting a variety of RS232 to IR devices to provide a complete control solution that is managed by the control system programmer.

2) Integrated wings - The 2G's are all shipping with permanently attached mouting wings. The 1G production will be migrated to the same installer friendly design in 4Q 2010, and we will be offering a mounting wing upgrade for existing 1G device owners.

3) Updateable firmware - The firmware can be updated via the LAN port. Just plug your laptop into the customer's network and select the Transmitter or Receiver needing the update. The same interface allows you to change the IP addresses of the Transmitters and Receivers and to adjust other features like the RS232 port configuration.

The first allocation of 2G Transmitters and Receivers are scheduled to ship to the distributors in less than 3 weeks. They will get a second allocation at the end of September. By the end of October we will have cranked up production to the point that controlled allocations are no longer necessary.

Please come visit one of our booths at CEDIA to see these new models in action. The 2G's will be on display in booths 4752 and 5337 (and possibly a few more yet to be determined).

We will be offering a training class at CEDIA on Saturday, September 25 at 4:00. At this class we will go into detailed examples of how to use the RS232 matrix to support popular requests like turning on/off TV's and controlling the volume on the AVR in a zone. This will include direct RS232 control examples, and RS232>IR examples. We also plan to make the RS232 over IP Software Developers Kit available to interested programmers at that time. In a nutshell, you can have as many RS232 controllers as you want simutaneously talking to any port on the Automation Matrix, independent of the HDMI over IP A/V Matrix.

Please send me a PM or an email if you want to guarantee a reserved spot in the class.

Thank you for asking. The allotted time slot is 90 minutes. I expect the class to run 60 minutes. That leaves plenty of time for Q&A and a chance to address individual control scenarios.

The class will cover:

HDMI over IP Matrix Control
RS232 over IP Matrix Control
Integrating IR Control
MediaSwitcher Software ([Link: justaddpower.com])
InstallerPro Software (a new utility for dealers being released next week)
Customizing Matrix Drivers* for use with a different switch

* This includes drivers for AMX, Control4, Crestron, RTI, Savant, and URC (and just about any other automation platform wanting to use the Just Add Power solution).
