Hello I have controlled LG TVs for years via 232 without a problem. I just got a 60PK750 in to the office and am trying the same 232 code I have used for years and I can't get it to work. Does anyone know if LG has stopped the 232 port from working in these new models?

I called LG regarding the description on some of their new displays (the 47LE8500, specifically) showing the RS232 port being for "Service Only". Here's the reply I got:

Dear John,

On this model 47LE8500 the port is for service only, not any type of custom installation.

Thank you for question about this product, you have a good day.

I haven't used that specific model, but I know that I've recently had trouble with models that won't turn on when off via RS232. I've checked the service manuals and turned 'green mode' off but still no go.

www.lgrs232.com might help you.

I believe that it's not a percentage, but rather an increment. So whatever control system you use you will have to do some type of ramp and populate the value in the correct position. In the example below it's ASCII with \x being an escape sequence to denote the next two chars are a single hex byte.

So volume level 0 is...

kf 01 00\x0D

...all the way through...

kf 01 64\x0D

64 is ASCII'fied hex for the decimal value of 100, meaning 100% volume.

Ramp Volume Down - mc 1 3\r

Ramp Volume Up - mc 1 2\r

Toggle Mute - mc 1 9\r

May I ask where you found those key commands?

My most recent TV purchase was a LG 60PS11. The "Service Only" RS232 port only worked when the television was off. The retailer I purchased from allowed me to hook up my laptop to the display model which worked correctly.

I would assume that the RS232 is defective in the television.

The Rep was probably just passing the buck or was ignorant of RS232.

I could, of course, be wrong having never laid eyes on your particular model.

It's all working as far as I know. I've been programming for two LG 37LD450 TV's today using the same codes that LG brought in about 5 years ago. The control specification is normally quite comprehensive but is relatively straightforward as control protocols go.

I don't know about your specific model, there's normally a PDF manual supplied on a CD with the TV which should have a section on RS232 control of this device (if it has it) You may find you can control this TV via IP instead seeing it's network ready.

Best suggestion try and find an RS232 code sending application that you can use to test the codes before you program them into a controller.

LG rep at cedia said that a firmware update should have fixed that already.
Anyone test it out?

I´ve read that on some LG´s its the baud rate that messes it up, you should go into the service menu and change it to 9600..
