The light will only flash when data is transmitted through the GUC232.
Did you say that you are using a CM232 on MPIO Port #8? If so your programming on [C] Port 8 (Not [R] Port 8) should be correct.

Turned out to be two things. The first was I had a bad cable for the multipurpose port. The second was a power cycle. A red button reset wouldn't do it but pulling the power cord did. Thanks for all of the help. Using the serial commands with these boxes is awesome. I can't believe how nice it is with the direct channel access. I wish I could do that with every cable box.
