Anyone have experience with these? I'm beating my head against the wall trying to get ours to work via rs232. The serial protocol is pretty confusing for this stuff.

I'm hooked directly to one of four monitors. I'm sending all kinds of 232 commands from RTI's library and I can't get any response. Occasionally I get a "00CB04BE" from the monitor when I haven't sent a command. I'm trying to decipher the 232 documentation to figure out what this even means.

Right now I have a null cable going to the rearmost DB9 connector on the monitor (labeled as IN in the manual).

Any insight would be greatly appreciated

Hey, look! Progress already.

I can get monitor ID 1 to respond, but if I change the ID in that monitor's OSD (it will eventually become ID 3) I can't get it to respond. I also tried sending to ID ALL (2Ah) and no response.

This power on works for ID 1 (from RTI library)
01 30 41 30 41 30 43 02 43 32 30 33 44 36 30 30 30 31 03 73 0D

This power on should work for ID 2 (changed third section to "42" which should map to ID 2 instead of "41" which is ID 1)
01 30 42 30 41 30 43 02 43 32 30 33 44 36 30 30 30 31 03 73 0D
--doesn't work

This power on should work for all monitors (listed in documentation as 'A'(2Ah))
01 30 2A 30 41 30 43 02 43 32 30 33 44 36 30 30 30 31 03 73 0D

Go here (sounds like you already have):

[Link: necdisplay.com]

Read section 4.5 about the checksum calculation. By changing your ID character, the checksum is now incorrect so the panel will ignore the command entirely, assuming an error. The checksum character is the last before the carriage return at the end. I use windows calculator for xor in hex. NEC might have a tool somewhere

That protocol sucks.

After I figured out that I had the checksum wrong, I was using windows calculator, too.

Isn't there a better way???

Thanks!

I'm gonna crap if I look there and it's staring me in the face...

crap... there it is! you are the man!

FWIW - it's not a download, you just do it in the browser page

edit - you can only add 9 hex characters on RTI's calculator... I'm dealing with 16-18 character strings, not counting the start byte, checksum, and end byte. Am I doing something wrong?

I did, but I only got the power on/off and input commands so far. I need to write some strings for turning tiling on and off, select which panel is in what position, etc. It's not hard, but it's freakin tedious and tons of room to make mistakes...

Got it all worked out just fine. Just had to do the math by hand, unfortunately. Got power, input, tile on/off for addresses 1, 2, 3, 4, and ALL if anyone needs them.

Jim,

How can we get this from you? Have you uploaded it anywhere? I have been trying to use the RS232 on my 400UX's but am not having any luck so far. Any tools or advice you have please send to: [email protected]

Thanks,
HJ

I just uploaded them to the Files section here - not exactly sure what page they'll end up on.

Sent them to you in an email as well.

Just make sure you're using null modem connections for the rs232. Can't say that I'm sure these codes will work for the TV you're working with, though.
